Waistcoat Stitch: This stitch is simply a double crochet worked through the V of the previous double crochet row, and when continued in this manner produces a stocking stitch pattern when worked in the round. The stitch is very firm and easier to work by dropping the hook size, to be able to insert through the middle of the stitch.
Insert the hook through the V of the previous row, and ensure it comes below the cross bar at the back and through the inverted V of this stitch as viewed from the reverse side.
Instructions
Size - small
Rnd 1(RS): Using 7.00 mm hook and Col1, work 2 ch. Work 6 dc into first dc. Do not join the round, continue to work into the next stitch to create a spiral. A stitch marker can be used to mark the start of the round.
Rnd 2: 2 dc in each st of Rnd 1. (12 Sts).
Rnd 3: (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) of Rnd 2. Repeat to end of round (18 Sts).
Rnd 4: (1 dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st) of Rnd 3. Repeat to end of round (24 Stitches).
Rnd 5: (1 dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st) of Rnd 4. Repeat to end of round (30 Stitches).
Rnd 6: (1 dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st) of Rnd 5. Repeat to end of round (36 Stitches).
Base complete.
Rnd 7: 1 dc in the back loop of each stitch in this round, sl st in next st to smooth out the first row of the side.
Rnd 8: 1 wc in each stitch to the end of the round, do not sl st, continue in spiral using marker.
Rnd 9: Repeat Rnd 8 once more.
Colour Work:
Follow the pattern gird below and repeat. To change colours, work the stitch before without completing (this is the last yo and draw through 2). Change colours here, then work the next stitch in the new colour. If the new colour is just 1 stitch, once again, do not complete the last yo draw through 2, change colour back and then work in this fashion.
When carrying the colours behind, do not float, work the crochet around the colour float instead to keep inside neat.
Note: the end of the round will be a little mismatch, however the effect will remain.
Work Rnd 10-12 Following grid.
Rnd 13: Repeat Rnd 8 using Col2.
Work 6 more rnds of wc using Col2.
FINISHING
Sl st into next stitch and bind off.
Weave in loose ends.
