Quick Guide To Outdoor Blinds & Awnings Styles
- Awnings: Weather boxes are available in conjunction with this classic blind style. A weather box provides protection for the cloth when the awning is not in use. Made from sturdy rolled steel, weather boxes are available in a range of colour bonded finishes to coordinate with your awning fabric and exterior house paint.
- Automatic awnings: This style operates with moving arms that are attached to the base rail of the blind, moving up or down steel guides attached to the wall of the building. Best suited for ground floor applications.
- Fixed guide awnings: These have a base rail attached to metal side guides that allow the blind to move the full drop of the window. They’re best suited where blinds are hard to reach from ground level, and can be operated with rope and pulley or opt for motorisation for those difficult to to reach areas.
- Straight drop spring roller awnings: Ideally suited for verandahs and balconies, this style features fabric that is drawn down and tied off with straps or clips to the veranda floor or balcony railing. They’re available with normal spring operation or by a crank drive.
- Side Channel Awning: This awning style is designed to fit between posts or brick pillars in outdoor areas. Hand operated Side Channel Awnings sit in-between channels which assist with the movement of the blind.

- Mesh & PVC: Mostly commonly referred to as Screen fabrics, these are light filtering materials that allow you to see through the blind and enjoy the view of your garden or outdoor entertaining area. Screen fabrics offer less UV protection than canvas options, and are best suited to spaces that see less sun or if maintaining your views are of paramount importance.
- Acrylic & Canvas: These fabrics are not see-through and are much heavier than Screen options. Acrylics & Canvas can provide up to 95% UV protection and are the ideal choice for windows that get a lot of direct sunlight.
