Instructions
Reference the downloadable project sheet for project pattern diagrams.
Step 1
From the template provided, cut out from satin: 1x Cape and 1x facing
Step 2
Make a narrow hem along bottom curve of cape by pressing up 6 mm then press up 10 mm. Sew hem in place. Press flat.
TIP: Overlocking the bottom edge with a bit of tension in the stitching can help with pressing up a curved hem.
Step 3
Make a narrow hem along both of the side edges of the cape as per the base hem.
Step 4
Make a narrow hem on the two short ends of the facing as per cape edges.
Step 5
Stay stitch along the base curve of the facing piece 13 mm in from base edge. Press up seam allowance along this edge with the stitching just on the inside of the pressed edge.
TIP: Using a line of staystitching is an easy way to press up an even seam allowance especially on a curve.
Step 6
With right sides together, pin the facing to the top of the cape neckline aligning top raw edges and side hems. Sew facing to cape along the top with a 15 mm seam allowance. Trim and clip seam and press towards facing. Under stitch facing. Press facing to inside of cape.
Step 7
Stitch facing to cape along base of press facing edge leaving the side edges open to create a casing.
Thread though cord of ribbon and cut to desired length.
