Instructions

Before Cutting Fabric decide the order of your fabrics for your quilt. Take a photo so you can reference the order you have chosen later. If you change this photo to black and white it will show the true value of your fabrics. Label your fabrics A-I.

From each of the 9 fabrics Cut 2 strips WOF x 10".

Take 1 strip of each A-C fabric, layer in order with right sides facing upwards ensuring all sides are together and level.

From these fabrics cut 4 x 10" squares from each set of strips and place them in 9 piles keeping your order correct with each set of three fabrics you cut, proceed with this method using fabrics D-F and G-I and making 9 piles with fabric in correct order.

Separate your individual piles to form 9 rows.

You will have 9 rows with 7 fabrics to form 7 columns.

You may lay them all out as in diagram and then stack your rows leaving the far right on the underneath of the pile and the far left on the top.

Number them 1-9.

Note: Refer to images in downloadable project sheet.

Assembling Quilt Top

Using the Webbing technique to assemble the quilt top with the 1/4" quilting foot.

Taking Fabric A and B from 1st row stitch together, then chain piece Fabric B and C from 2nd row, continue chain piecing the blocks, taking Fabric C and D from the 3rd row. Continue this method for each row until the 9 rows are done.

Continue sewing without pressing until we have sewn all of these columns together.

Starting again from Row 1 Take Fabric C from the top of the pile and attach to Fabric B forming the 3rd column. Continue chain piecing, Row 2 take Fabric D and attach to fabric C and continue in this manner for the rest of the quilt.

After all columns are pieced the quilt top is ready to press.

Press odd row seams to left, Press even row 2 seams to right this will enable the seams to but together

Sew rows together butting the seams together.

Press the quilt top row seams towards the bottom edge of the quilt top.

Round off the Corners of the quilt using a sew Easy circle and scallop ruler to form a soft curve. This will help when you put the piping on the quilt.

Bias Binding Piping

Using the 75cm of Fabric for the Piping, cut a 32" square.

Using your ruler with the 45 Deg line cut in half approx.

Join the straight edges together and press open.

Then using the Rotary Cutter and your ruler Cut in 2 1/2" strips as in the diagram and trim off excess at the end.

Sew the uncut edges together, press open.

Using a rotary cutter and ruler cut the sections which were just joined to form a continuous bias binding.

Using the cotton piping cord, and your zipper foot. Place Cord in centre of the bias binding with the right sides facing outside stitch close to the cord to hold it in place.

Using Rotary Cutter, and Ruler trim off excess fabric so you have a 1/4 " from edge stitching.

Note: Before quilting this quilt we must stitch the binding onto the edge of the quilt top.

Matching the raw edges and using your zipper foot or a binding foot, stitch the the piping cord binding to the edge of your quilt following these steps.

Starting about 4" in from the start of your cord in the middle of a side. Sew around all sides of the quilt top, stop sewing about 4" from the start of the starting cord.

Unpick the start of your binding with the 45 degree angle a little so this can be folded inwards towards the cord, so no raw edge will be showing.

Cut the cord Slightly shorter than the folded edge.

Using the other end of the piping, bring it to match where the other cord has finished and cut. Feed this into the tube of the start and sew the last section down.

Press raw edges under the quilt top.

Sandwiching The Quilt Top

Lay backing on table with right side facing table. Secure with either masking tape or clips,

Lay wadding on top and smooth over the backing.

Lay quilt top over the wadding right side facing up. Ensuring you have about 4" of backing fabric and wadding extra around the edges of your quilt.

Quilting the Quilt

Quilt as desired but ensure you do not quilt closer than 2" to the edge of your quilt.

Finishing The Quilt

Trim Quilt wadding to the edge of the quilt top less the piping.

The quilt backing is trimmed with 1 1/2" extra than the quilt top.

This is then placed over the edge of the binding and under the quilt top and pinned.

Sew around the edge of the quilt top from the wrong side just inside the piping removing pins as you go.

Quilt top is complete.

Pillow Sham

Using 6 of the blocks leftover from the quilt top, place them in a pleasing order and sew them in 2 rows of 3.

Cut smooth curves onto 2 of the ends of the pillow sham.

Using the leftover piping sew the piping in the same manner to the pillow sham except the short straight edge.

Sandwich the pillow sham as per the quilt top and quilt.

Trim the sham top to size 25.5" x 18".

Cut backing fabric 25.5 x 18" from excess of backing.

Cut inner Flange 9" x 18" attachment from excess of backing.

Assembly Of Pillow Sham

Attach flange to the short straight edge with raw edges towards together.

Fold under, Top stitch just past the raw edges to hide like in a French seam.

With right sides facing stitch around the 3 edges of the pillow sham.

Turn right sides out.

Top stitch around the 3 sides of the pillow sham to hide the raw edges.

Enjoy your new quilt and pillow sham!
