Instructions
Reference the downloadable project sheet for project pattern diagrams.
Step 1
From the template provided, cut out from felt:
- 2 x tail pieces
- 1 x round base piece
- 2 x spike strips
- 4 x 3.5 cm wide by 30/32/33 cm long strips (L/M/S)
Step 2
With wrong sides facing, place spike strips together aligning all edges. Sew together by top stitching around all edges 5 mm in from outer edges.
Step 3
Lay one of the tail pieces flat wrong side up. Lay the sewn spike strip along the top of the tail piece with the spikes sticking upwards with the small straight edge gaps between the spikes 10 mm below the top raw edge of the tail piece. Baste in place.
Lay the other tail piece on top, wrong sides facing, aligning all tail pieces edges. (base of spikes strips should between the two tail pieces).
Sew tail pieces together by top stitching 10 mm in from the raw edges, along the long sides and short end, leaving the wide end open. Remove basting stitch.
Step 4
To make the belt, layer & pin two of the long strips together. Top stitch together around all edges 5mm in from sides. Repeat with the other two strips.
Separate the hook and loop tape and pin one side of the tape to each of the felt strips near one of the ends of the strip. Stitch in place.
Step 5
Lay the tail piece flat and measure and mark with pins the half point on the width of the wide end of the tail on both sides.
Pin one of the belt pieces, on the non tape end to one of the marked halfway point on the tail, with 20 mm of the belt end inside of the tail. Baste in place.
Repeat with the other belt piece on the other side of the tail, ensuring though that the tape is opposite to the other strap- one will have the tape facing inside of strap, one will have the tape facing outside of strap.
Step 6
Stuff the tail with hobby fill to the desired fullness.
Pin the round base to the opening edges of the tail, ensuring the belt pieces are sticking out the tail. Topstitch the base in place 10 mm in from the outer edges, enclosing the stuffing and securing the belt in place. Remove any basting.
