RIBBON BOOKMARK
Level: Easy
What you'll need:
- Up to 50cm length of patterned ribbon, (this measurement will depend on the size of your book) we used offray
- Novelty buttons
- Hair ties
- Sewing machine and thread
Instructions
Step 1 - Cut a length of ribbon to twice the height of your book. (we used an a5 size diary and cut our ribbon to 40cm)
Step 2 - Fold one end of the ribbon under by 1cm, fold over again by another 1cm and sew along the edge of the fold, this is called a double fold hem.
Step 3 - Sew a button onto the front side of this hem. the doubled thickness of the hem will help give stability to the stitches holding the button.
Step 4 - On the other end of the ribbon, sew a double side hem, you will need to fold the hem over the hair tie. Take care when sewing the hem to not catch the hair tie in the sewing.
Step 5 - Place the ribbon through your book and hook the hair tie over the button on the front cover.
