FABRIC CHECKERBOARD

Level: Intermediate
What you'll need:
- 25cm x width of fabric of 2 different coloured blender fabrics (or a mix of different fabrics, so long as there are two key colours)
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- Rotary cutter and ruler
- Wadding of your choice (we used 100% cotton) (18" square)
- Backing of your choice (18" square)
- Prima quilt binding
Instructions:
Step 1- Cut 32 squares (2.5'x2.5') from colour one, and 32 squares (2.5'x2.5') from colour two.
Step 2- Sew together in strips of 8, alternating the colour with each square. (You will need 4 strips that start with colour one, and 4 that start with colour two.) Press seams open.
Step 3- Sew strips of 8 together to make a block that is 8 squares x 8 squares (this will measure approx. 16.5' x 16.5'.) Press seams open.
Step 4- Cut your backing and wadding to measure 18' square, and sandwich with your checkerboard on top.
Step 5- Quilt as desired (we quilted diagonal lines through each square) and trim to square. Bind using your choice of batching binding (we used Prima quilt binding).
Note: We used buttons for counters, but you can cut your own shapes out of felt if using for small children.
