Binding fabric

Cut 8 x 2.5" wide strips from WOF.

Using Template A and your 7.5" wide strips with right side of the fabric facing up, cut the following, ensuring that you match up the long side of the template against the width of the strip ie on the side which measures 7.5"

5 x shapes - daffodil, tangerine, green, black

8 x shapes - pink, fuschia

15 x shapes - lilac, pansy, aqua, blue

You will now have 96 fabric pieces of template A.

From your background fabric 1.25" wide strips and using Template B, with the right side of the fabric facing up, cut 48 pieces.

Put the remaining background fabric strips aside until you are ready to join the blocks.

Instructions

Step 1 - Determine your colour layout referring to the quilt diagram and separate your template A pieces into 48 groups of 2.

Step 2 - Referring to diagram A match one template A piece to a template B piece. With right sides facing, match at the pinning points marked on all templates (this is quite important to ensure the block is a neat square when completed). Sew together. Press seams to one side.

Step 2 - Match the other template A piece to the opposite side of template B. Again, match pinning points and sew. Press seams to one side. Your block is now complete.

Step 3 - Repeat steps above for the remaining 47 blocks.

Once you are happy with the placement of your blocks, it is now time to add the short sashing strips, creating the 8 rows.

Step 4 - With 8 of the 1.25" wide background strips, crosscut to yield 40 x 7.5" short sashing strips.

Step 5 - Referring to diagram B and working on one row at a time, join a short sashing strip to your blocks. Each row will require 5 short sashing strips. Once completed each row will measure 46.25" long. Press seams to one side.

Step 6 - Using the remaining 1.25" wide strips, join and cut to measure 7 x 46.25" long sashing strips.

Step 7 - Referring to diagram C and using the long sashing strips, join your rows together. Press seams to one side. Your quilt top is now in one piece.

Step 8 - From your 2.5" wide background strips, join and cut to measure the following -

2 x 46.25" long strips (top border)

2 x 65.75" long strips (side border)

Step 9 - Join short border rows to the top and bottom of the quilt top. Press seam to one side.

Step 10 - Join long border rows to the long ends of the quit. Press seam to one side. Quilt top is now complete.

Step 11 - Cut backing fabric in half so that you have two 2m lengths. Join together on the long side to create a large backing piece. Press seams.

Step 12 - Lay the backing, batting and quilt top. Baste together. Quilt as desired.

Step 13 - Join binding strips, fold in half and iron. Sew binding around quilt.
