Step 1: Make the Quilted Pocket

  • Sew the 18 squares into 6 rows of 3 squares each. Press seams.
  • The finished size will be 9" x 18".
  • Layer with batting and backing. Quilt in the ditch.

  • Bind the top (18.5" side) using your binding strip.

Step 2: Prepare the Front Panel

    Piece A: 7" x 18.5" (add a 1" hem along one long edge)
    Piece B: 13" x 18.5"
  • Insert a zipper between the two pieces, with the flap from Piece A covering the zipper.

  • Clip corners, turn right side out, press, and insert an 18" cushion pad.

Cushion Cover 2: Snowball Block Front

Front: Snowball block using one 18.5" square and four 9" squares for corners

Back: Zipper closure with 1" flap

Step 1: Make the Snowball Front Panel

  • Place one 9" square on each corner of the 18.5" square, right sides together.
  • Draw a diagonal line across each corner square from corner to corner.
  • Stitch along each drawn line.
  • Trim 1/4" outside each seam line (toward the outer corner) to reduce bulk.
  • Press the corner triangles open.
  • Confirm the block remains 18.5" x 18.5". Trim slightly if needed.

Piece A: 7" x 18.5" (hem 1" along one long edge for the flap)
    Piece B: 13" x 18.5"
  • Sew the zipper between the two pieces, placing it under the flap.
  • Trim back panel to 18.5" x 18.5".

  • Clip corners, turn right side out, press, and insert an 18" cushion pad.

Cushion Cover 3: Log Cabin Block Front

Front: Log cabin block starting with a 10.5" centre square, building out with 2.5" wide strips

Step 1: Make the Log Cabin Front Panel

  • Start with the 10.5" x 10.5" centre square.
  • Add strips in the following order (working in a spiral: right, bottom, left, top, etc.), using a 1/4" seam allowance and pressing after each step:
Strip 1: 2.5" x 10.5" (sewn to the right side)
    Strip 2: 2.5" x 12.5" (bottom)
    Strip 3: 2.5" x 12.5" (left)
    Strip 4: 2.5" x 14.5" (top)
    Strip 5: 2.5" x 14.5" (right)

    Strip 7: 2.5" x 16.5" (left)
    Strip 8: 2.5" x 18.5" (top)
  • Your completed block should now measure 18.5" x 18.5". Trim if necessary.
