Cut 3 x 3" wide strips from WOF. Cross cut to yield 3" squares.

Cut 3 x 4" wide strips from WOF. Cross cut to yield 4" squares.

Half square triangles -

Gather all of the 3" and 4" squares. Following the diagram cross cut to yield the half square triangles.

Block Layout -

Each block is made up of 1 x 3.5" square (centre) plus 2x 3" squares each cut once on the diagonal to yield 4 triangle pieces and 2 x 4" squares each cut once on the diagonal to yield 4 triangle pieces. A total of 64 blocks are required. There will be sufficient amounts of all pieces to ensure a good mix and match is achievable.

Sewing Instructions

Step 1 - Refer to the Block Diagram, organise your fabrics mixing and matching into 64 groups. There will be sufficient squares/triangles cut to choose and mix and match your fabrics in a pleasing manner.

Step 2 - Gather the centre square and two of the small triangle pieces. Fold each triangle in half to locate the centre. Do the same with the opposite two sides of the square. With right sides facing and matching the fold marks, lay the two triangle pieces on to the square. Pin and sew along the edge. Press seams to one side.

Step 3 - Gather the remaining two small triangle pieces and as above, fold to find the centre in the triangles and the remaining two opposite sides of the square. With right sides facing and matching the fold marks, lay the two triangle pieces on to the square. Pin and sew along the edge. Press seams to one side.

Step 4 - Gather two of the large triangle pieces. Fold each triangle in half to locate the centre. Do the same with the opposite two sides of the square. With right sides facing and matching the fold marks, lay the two triangle pieces on to the square. Pin and sew along the edge. Press seams to one side.

Step 5 - Gather the remaining two large triangle pieces and as above, fold to find the centre in the triangles and the remaining two opposite sides of the square. With right sides facing and matching the fold marks, lay the two triangle pieces on to the square. Pin and sew along the edge. Press seams to one side. Repeat Steps 1 to 5 to create the remaining 63 blocks.

Step 6 - Lay the blocks out in 8 x rows each containing 8 blocks. Mix and match until you are happy with the layout.

Step 7 - Keeping your blocks in order, sew the squares together, creating rows. Press seams to one side.

Step 8 - Keeping your rows in order, join together. Press seams to one side. Quilt top is now complete.

Step 9 - Cut backing fabric in half so that you have two 1.6m lengths. Join together on the long side to create a large backing piece. Press seams.

Step 10 - Lay the backing, batting and quilt top. Baste together. Quilt as desired.

Step 11 - Join the binding strips to create one long strip. Fold in half and iron. Sew binding around quilt.
