FRACTAL FLOWERS QUILT

Fractal Flowers Quilt Project

Level: Easy

What you'll need:

  • 40cm - A variety of at least 6 Fractal Flowers fabrics
  • 170cm ‐ Deep navy blue cotton fabric

Instructions:

Finished size: 165 x 165cm

(*Please note there are 61 blocks. From one of your 6 fabrics you will need to make 1 extra block.)

Step 1- Cut 10 ‐ 4.5 x 4.5 inch squares from each of the lighter/medium fabrics.

Step 2- Cut 20 ‐ 6 x 2 inch strips from each of the 6 fabrics.

Step 3- Cut 122 - From navy blue fabric cut ‐ 2x2 inch squares.

Step 4- Cut 61 - 6 x 2 inch pieces - navy blue.

Step 5- Cut 61 ‐ 4.5 x 2 inch pieces - navy blue.

Step 6- Cut 20 - 7.5 x 8 inch pieces - for outer edge navy blue.

Step 7- Cut 4 - 7.5 x 7.5 navy blue - for each corner.

Step 8- Once all pieces of the blocks have been cut the piecing can begin, assemble 61 blocks altogether. Press all seams gently as you assemble the block.

Step 9- Once all blocks have been assembled and even while you are assembling your blocks lay them out in the order that you would like them to appear. There is always some juggling to be done so similar blocks aren't all in a row. This can take some time.

Step 10- Beginning from one edge of the quilt slowly piece each row of blocks together.

Step 11- Once all rows are together you will then need to attach the navy blue blocks on the end of each row. Piece the 7.5 inch matching length to each end of the row.

Step 12‐ Once all of the navy blue blocks have been sewn to the outer edges of the quilt you can then start to sew each row to the following row.

Step 13‐ You will notice an overhang of the navy blue fabric, however this needs to be very carefully trimmed on an angle allowing a minimum of .5 inches, from the sewn seam of the 2.2 inch corner edge block as you want a generous overhang whilst quilting.

Step 14‐ You can trim the navy blue section as you join each row squaring it off, but making sure you have left a generous overhang that can be neatened off and trimmed once quilted.

Step 15- Sandwich and Quilt.

Tip: When working with 45 degree angled blocks always allow a generous overhang on each end of the row so that you get a neat trimmed edge before binding and all the squares have the same allowance on the edges.
