PAPER HEXAGON LANTERN
Level: Easy
What You'll Need:
- Cricut Maker 3 + Tools + Mat + Design Space access.
- 210 GSM Cardstock of any colour: We have used the Sizzix Cardstock in Ivory x 7 sheets A4, if using 12in squares then you will need only x 4.
- Vellum Paper: 7 x Fundamentals A4 Vellum Paper If using 12 x 12 in sheets, then you will need x 4
- Cricut Maker 3 Scoring Tip and Housing
- Double Hex Lantern template from Cricut Design Space - attached
- Eva foam double sided tap
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1 - Find the cardstock color you want to
make the lantern with. We have used ivory.
Step 2 - Set up the craft machine with
Scoring wheel tip and cutting tip.
Step 3 - Find the "Double Hex Lantern" template on Cricut. Make any adjustments to the design that you like. We have not added bees to our design, but you may choose to do this.
Step 4 - Simply select "make" on the Design Space app and the machine will cut out the shapes needed for the project.
Step 5 - You will end up with 6 rectangles (the lantern's sides) and one hexagon (the lid).
Step 6 - Repeat the same for vellum- and cut out 6 rounded rectangles and one hexagon.
Step 7 - If the scoring tip is absent, then you can manually score the shapes at the folding lines on the template. (it is highly recommended that the folding lines are scored.
Step 8 - Using double sided tape adhere the vellum to the cut-out rectangles and the hexagon.
Tip: glue is not very effective with vellum paper, so it is recommended thin strips of double-sided tape.
Step 9 - Begin by adhering all the sides to each other using the left excess flap. Once they are chained and stuck to each other you will end up with a 3D standing hexagon.
Step 10 - Once you are happy with this, carefully line up the top excess flaps to resemble a flattened hexagon.
Step 11 - Next, simply tape the lid (on the side of the vellum) and press down the hexagon lid onto the structure
