Tension

20 sts and 24 rows to 10 cm over main pattern using 4.50 mm knitting needles.

Instructions

Special Abbreviations

  • RT (Right Twist): Knit into front of second stitch on left needle, leaving stitch on needle, then knit into the back of first stitch on left needle and slip the two stitches off the needle together.
  • LT (Left Twist): Knit into back of second stitch on left needle, leaving stitch on needle, then knit into the front of first stitch on left needle and slip the two stitches off the needle together.

Note: Twist Stitch - when knitting into the second stitch at the front, ensure that the needle is in front of the first stitch before completing the knit stitch.




Back

Band -

Using 4.00 mm knitting needles and C1 cast on 97 (102-109) sts.

1st row (RS) - Knit

2nd row (WS) - Purl

3rd - 6th row - rep 1st & 2nd row twice more, change to C2.

7th row - Knit

8th row - Knit

9th row - Purl

10th row - Knit, change to C1.

Rep 3rd -10th row to approx. 15 cm from cast on ending on a 10th row.

Main Patt -

Change to MC and 4.50mm knitting needles.

1st row (RS) - Knit

2nd row - Purl

3rd row - K2 (3-5), *(RT, LT) 3 times, K15 (16-17)* rep from *to* twice more, (RT, LT) 3 times, k2 (3-5)

4th row -Purl

5th row - K2 (3-5), *(LT, RT) 3 times, K15 (16-17)* rep from *to* twice more, (LT, RT) 3 times, k2 (3-5)

6th Row - Purl

3rd - 6th row forms pattern.

Rep pattern once more.

Batwing & Sleeves Shaping -

Note - As more stitches are added, work in stocking st for 15 (16-17) sts to keep in line with the pattern, then add another set of Twist Stitches over the next following 12sts, as they are increased gradually. Work increased st in plain stocking st until set patt repeat can be established between *to* 3 times, equalling 6 sets of Twist Stitches over 12sts, spaced with stocking stitch.

Cont by keeping set patt correct, inc 1st at each end of next and every 3rd row until there are 123 (128-137) sts.

Sizes S& M only -

Next row - Purl.

Size L only -

Keeping patt correct, work 2 rows.

All Sizes -

Cast on 4 (5-5) sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Cast on 5 (5-5) sts at beg of next 4 rows.

There are now 151 (158-167) sts.**

Keeping patt correct, cont without shaping until back measures 54 (56-60) cm from beg ending with a purl row (WS).

Shoulder Shaping -

Keeping patt correct, cast off 12 (13-14) sts at beg of next 6 rows.

Keeping patt correct, cast off 13 (13-13) sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Place rem 53 (54-57) sts on a stitch holder for back neck.


Front

Work same as for Back to **

Keeping patt correct, cont without shaping until Front counts 10 rows less than back before start of shoulder shaping.

Left Front Neck Shaping -

Patt 63 (66-69) turn.

Dec 1st at neck edge on next and foll 9 rows by knitting or purling 2sts together ... 54 (57-60) sts, ending on a WS row.

Shoulder & Neck Shaping -

1st row - Keeping patt correct, cast off 12 (13-14) sts, patt until 2sts rem, K2tog ... 41 (43-45) sts.

2nd row - P2tog, purl to the end ... 40 (42-44) sts.

3rd row - Keeping patt correct cast off 12 (13-14) sts, patt until 2sts, K2tog ... 27 (28-29) sts.

4th row - P2tog, purl to the end ... 26 (27-28) sts.

5th row - Keeping patt correct cast off 12 (13-14) sts, patt until 2sts rem, K2tog ... 13 (13-13) sts.

6th row - Purl.

Cast off remaining 13 (13-13) sts.

Place next 25 (26-29) sts on a stitch holder for centre Front neck.

Right Front Neck Shaping -

Rejoin yarn to rem 63 (66-69) sts, and patt to end.

Dec 1st at neck edge on next and foll 10 rows by knitting or purling 2sts tog ... 53 (56-59) sts, ending on a RS row.

Shoulder & Neck Shaping

1st row - Cast off 12 (13-14) sts, purl until 2sts rem, P2tog ... 40 (42-44) sts.

2nd row - K2tog, patt to end ... 39 (41-43) sts.

3rd row - Cast off 12 (13-14) sts, purl until 2sts rem, P2tog ... 26 (27-28) sts.

4th row - K2tog, patt to end ... 25 (26-27) sts.

5th row - Cast off 12 (13-14) sts, purl to end ... 13 (13-13) sts.

Patt 1 row.

Cast off remaining 13 (13-13) sts.


Neck Band

With right sides facing, pin and sew right shoulder using MC and a back stitch, ensuring pattern is matched.

1st row (RS) - Using 4.00 mm needles and C2, knit up 15sts evenly along left front neck shaping, knit across 25 (26-29) sts for centre Front neck, knit up 15sts evenly along right front neck shaping, knit across 53 (54-57) sts on Back ... 108 (110-116) sts, turn

2nd row (WS) - Knit.

3rd row - Purl

4th row - Knit, change to C1.

5th row - Knit.

6th row - Purl.

Rep last 2 rows twice more.

Cast off knitways.


Sleeve Bands

With right sides facing, pin and sew left shoulder and neck band, using a back stitch, ensuring pattern is matched.

1st row (RS) - Using 4.00 mm needles and C2, knit up 80 (84-86) sts evenly along sleeve edge.

2nd row - Knit

3rd row - Purl

4th row - Knit, change to C1.

5th row - Knit

6th row - Purl

Rep last 2 rows once more, change to C2.

9th row - Knit

10th row - Knit

11th row - Purl

12th row - Knit, change to C1.

Rep rows 5 to 12 once more.

Rep rows 5 to 8 once more, do not change colours.

Work 2 more rows of stocking stitch using C1.

Cast off knitways.

Rep for the second sleeve.


Finishing

With right sides facing, pin and sew sleeve bands and side seams, using matching yarn and back stitch. Weave in loose ends.
