Koosh Retro Crochet Beanie Project

LEVEL: BEGINNER

What you'll need:

  • 1 Ball each 100 gram koosh x 4 Colours (Col1, Col2, Col3, Col4)
  • 00mm crochet hook
  • 50mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Tape measure

 

FINISHED SIZE:

To suit head 50-57cms circumference.

 

Abbreviations

ch = chain, lp/s = loop/s, Rnd = Round, RS = right side, sl st = slip stitch, st/s = stitch/es

 

Note: Keeping joins to the start of the round, will require alternating between the space before and after the first set of three with the 3ch that counts as the first tr.

INSTRUCTIONS

Rnd 1(RS): Using Col1 and 5.00mm hook, make 4 ch(last 3ch counts as 1 tr), 9 tr in 4th ch from hook, sl st in 3rd of first tr. (10 tr). Bind off.

Rnd 2: Using Col2, draw up a lp in between 2 tr at the start of Rnd 1, 3 ch(counts as first tr), 1 tr in same space, 2 tr in space between each tr of Rnd 1 to end, sl st in 3rd ch of starting ch (20 tr). Bind off.

Rnd 3: Using Col3, draw up a lp in between 2 groups of 2 tr at the start of Rnd 2, 3 ch(counts as first tr), 1 tr in same space, 2 tr in space between each tr of Rnd 2 to end, sl st in 3rd ch of starting ch (40 tr). Bind off.

Rnd 4: Using Col4, draw up a lp in between 2 groups of 2 tr at the start of Rnd 3, 3 ch(counts as first tr), 2 tr in same space, 3 tr in space between each group of 2 tr of Rnd 3 to end, sl st in 3rd ch of starting ch (20 groups of 3tr). Bind off.

Rnd 5: Using Col1, draw up a lp in between 2 groups of 3 tr at the start of Rnd 4, 3 ch(counts as first tr), 2 tr in same space, 3 tr in space between each group of 3 tr of Rnd 4 to end, sl st in 3rd ch of starting ch (20 groups of 3tr). Bind off.

Rnd 6: Using Col2, repeat Rnd 5.

Rnd 7: Using Col3, repeat Rnd 5.

Rnd 8: Using Col4, repeat Rnd 5.

Rnd 9: Using Col1, repeat Rnd 5.

Work 11 more Round of the above establish pattern, and colour sequence. Ends with Col 3.

Bind off.

Band

Using Col 4 and 4.50mm hook, draw up a lp in the last stitch of last Rnd.

Work 7ch, turn.

Row 1: 1ch in each ch to second last chain. Insert hook through last chain and then next st of last tr rnd, yarn over hook, draw through these 2 sts, yarn over hook draw through remaining 2 sts, to work a dc and attach to the body of the work at the same time. Do not turn. (6 sts)

Row 2: Insert hook through next st of last tr rnd, yarn around hook, draw through both stitches to form a ch, turn. 1dc in back lp of each st of Row 2 to end. Turn.

Row 3: 1ch 1 dc in back lp of first 5 sts. Insert hook through last chain and then next st of last tr rnd, yarn over hook, draw through these 2 sts, yarn over hook draw through remaining 2 sts, to work a dc and attach to the body of the work at the same time. Do not turn.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 in each of the sts in the last st in the last tr rnd of beanie.

Bind off leave a 25cm tail.

Keeping rib pattern correct overstitch ends together and tie off.

Finishing

Weave in loose ends.
