Instructions

Adjustment #1 - Cutting the Pattern

  1. Prior to cutting, using a ruler and pen rule a straight line from inner arm corner to the bottom on the pattern piece for both pattern piece "5 Side A" and "9 Back A". This will create a box shape to the jacket. Repeat this for both pattern pieces to create a straight side to the blazer.
  2. Using pattern V1913 cut the following pieces for the rest of "Blazer A" - 1,2,5,6,9,10,11,12,13,14,15 (this blazer does not need the pocket pieces)
  3. Taking the blazer pieces, join all sides for the body of the blazer and sleeves. Do not join shoulder seams of the blazer or complete the sleeve. Pieces need to be joined to create the net shape of the blazer but should not be joined to create the completed blazer shape.

Attaching fringe

  1. Lay the blazer body and sleeve body flat on the table right side facing up. Starting at the base of the jacket pin the first row of tassel 6cm up from the hem. Ensure that the ends of the tassel band overhang both sides of the blazer pieces.
  2. Pin a row of tassel across the width of the blazer piece. Using the sewing machine zig zag across the top of the band.
  3. Repeat this process for the next colour row. (Example is worked 3 rows of each colour). Ensure that you are working from the bottom of the blazer up working row by row - this ensures that the fringe does not get caught.

TIP: Add an extra band of tassel in the sew of the shoulders to allow for laying and preventing bare shoulders when the jacket it being worn.

Attach Lining

  1. Create the lining just as the body of the blazer was constructed.
  2. With right sides facing, pin the two layers together tucking the tassels in and carefully ensuring that the ends are not sewn into the seams. Leave an opening at the base for turning.
  3. Once sewn turn out and hand stitch opening closed.
  4. Hand stitch the lining of the wrists to the jacket arm edge.
