WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Width (approx) cm 32
Circumference (approx) cm 120
Correct tension is not essential for this Cowl.
Step 1 - Leaving a 200cm end, make a loose slip knot and slip over your right hand and onto your arm ... first cast on st, cast on rem 4 sts, 5 sts in all.
1st row - * Keeping working end of yarn at back of work, pick up the working end of yarn and lift it from front to back up over your right hand. Close your fist over the working yarn. Holding on to the working yarn in your fist, lift the first st with your left hand from your right arm over your fist and let it go.
Note - (You are effectively pulling the working yarn through the first st on your right arm to make a new st to slip onto your left arm). Take the new st in your right fist, turn the loop a 1/2 turn and slip it onto your left arm. *
Note - (You want the part of the loop that is in front of your hand to be the part that is leading to the working yarn). Rep from * to * until all sts have been worked ... 5 sts on your left arm.
Note - (Working on the 2nd row is different than 1st row, you are knitting in the other direction, from your left arm to your right, holding the yarn in front for each st to form garter st.
2nd row - * Keeping working end of yarn at front of work, pick up the working end of yarn and lift it from back to front up over your left hand. Close your fist over the working yarn.
Holding onto the working yarn in your fist, lift the first st with your right hand from your left arm over your fist and let it go. Take the new st in your left fist, turn the loop a 1/2 turn and slip it onto your right arm. * Rep from * to * until all sts have been worked ... 5 sts on your right arm. Rep 1st and 2nd rows until there is approx 300cm of yarn remaining, ending with a 1st row. Casting Off - Knit 2 sts onto your right arm. * With your left hand, pick up the first st you knitted on your right arm, lift that first st over the 2nd st that you knitted and let it go. Knit the next st from your left arm, (you will have two sts on your right arm again) *, rep from * to *, until there is only one st rem on your right arm. Cut the yarn approx 100cm from end of the last st. Hold the end of yarn in your right hand, lift rem st over your fist and let go. Pull yarn left in your hand firmly to fasten off.
DO NOT PRESS. Using your hand to work a flat seam as you normally would with a yarn needle, join cast on and cast off ends of work tog to form cowl twisting the work once. Work in rem ends securely with your hand on WS of work.
