  • 1 pair 4.50mm knitting needles or size required to give correct tension.

INSTRUCTIONS

SPECIAL ABBREVIATION

M2 - make two sts by picking up loop that lies before next st, place on left hand needle (K1, P1) into back of loop.

BACK

Using 4.50mm needles, cast on 106 (118-130) sts.

Beg Rib - 1st row (RS) - K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.

2nd row - P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end. Last 2 rows form rib. Cont in rib until work measures 38cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row. Work a further 20 rows rib.

Shape Armholes - Keeping rib correct, cast off 4 (6-8) sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 98 (106-114) sts. Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 92 (96-100) sts rem. Cont in rib without shaping until armholes measure 24 (25-

26) cm, ending with a 2nd row.

Shape Shoulders - Cast off 9 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 8 (8-10) sts at beg of foll 2 rows. Cast off rem 40 (44-44) sts loosely in rib.

RIGHT FRONT

Using 4.50mm needles, cast on 59 (63-71) sts.

Beg Rib - 1st row (RS) - K3, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.

2nd row - P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to last st, P1. Last 2 rows form rib. Cont in rib until work measures 38cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Shape Front Slope and Collar - Keeping rib correct, 1st row - Rib 9, M2 (2 sts increased for collar), rib 2, rib 2tog (one st decreased for front slope), rib to end ... 60 (64-72) sts.

Keeping rib correct, and working extra sts into rib, dec one st for front slope (as before) in every foll 4th row 5 times, AT SAME TIME inc 2 sts for Collar (as before) in foll 4th row once, then in every foll 6th row twice ... 61 (65-73) sts.

Shape Armhole - Cast off 4 (6-8) sts at beg of next row ... 57 (59-65) sts.

Dec one st at armhole edge in next row, then in every foll alt row 2 (4-6) times, AT SAME TIME dec one st (as before) for front slope in 3rd row, then in every foll 4th row 1 (1-4) time/s, then in every foll 6th row 9 (9-8) times, AT SAME TIME inc 2 sts (as before) for collar in next row, then in every foll 6th row 10 times ... 65 (65-67) sts.

Cont without shaping until armhole measures same as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, working last row on WS. Work 1 row.

Shape Shoulder - Cast off 9 sts at beg of next row and foll alt row. Work 1 row. Cast off 8 (8-10) sts at beg of next row. Leave rem 39 sts on a stitch-holder for right back collar.

Place 5 markers for button placement evenly along Right Front edge, placing first marker 2cm from lower edge (cast on edge) and 5th marker level with commencement of front slope shaping, then rem markers evenly spaced inbetween.

LEFT FRONT

Note - Work buttonholes when level with marker placement on Right Front working last row before buttonhole on WS as follows - RS row - Rib to last 6 sts, cast off 2 sts, rib 4 WS row - Rib 4, turn, cast on 2 sts, turn, rib to end.

Using 4.50mm needles, cast on 59 (63-71) sts.

Beg Rib - 1st row (RS) - K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row - P3, * K2, P2, rep from * to end. Last 2 rows form rib.

Cont in rib until work measures 38cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and noting to work buttonholes as stated when level with each marker ... 5 buttonholes in all.

Shape Front Slope and Collar - Keeping rib correct, 1st row - Rib to last 13 sts, rib 2tog (one st decreased for front slope), rib 2, M2 (2 sts increased for collar), rib 9 ... 60 (64-72) sts.

Keeping rib correct, and working extra sts into rib, dec one st for front slope (as before) in every foll 4th row 4 times, AT SAME TIME inc 2 sts for Collar (as before) in foll 4th row once, then in every foll 6th row twice ... 62 (66-74) sts. Work 3 rows.

Shape Armhole - Cast off 4 (6-8) sts at beg of next row, dec one st (as before) for front slope ... 57 (59-65) sts.

Dec one st at armhole edge in every foll alt row 3 (5-7) times, AT SAME TIME dec one st (as before) for front slope in every foll 4th row 2 (2-5) times, then in every foll 6th row 9 (9-8) times, AT SAME TIME inc 2 sts (as before) for collar in 2nd row, then in every foll 6th row 10 times ... 65 (65-67) sts.

Cont without shaping until armhole measures same as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, working last row on WS.

SLEEVES

Using 4.50mm needles, cast on 50 (54-58) sts. Work in rib as for Back until work measures 5cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Cont in rib and working extra sts into rib, inc one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 6th row until there are 62 (74-86) sts, then in every foll 8th row until there are 82 (88-94) sts.

Cont without shaping until work measures 48cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Shape Top - Keeping rib correct, cast off 2 (3-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 78 (82-86) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 42 (42-46) sts rem, then in every row until 16 sts rem. Cast off rem 16 sts in rib.

COLLAR

Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. With RS facing and using 4.50mm needles, rib across sts from right back collar stitch-holder. Cont in rib until collar fits across half of back neck to centre, working last row on WS. Cast off loosely in rib. Work left back collar to correspond.

Join cast off edges of collar pieces together. Sew side edge of collar to back neck, placing seam in centre and easing to fit.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew on buttons.
