Instructions

Cut Fabrics

Note: All strips are cut across the width of the fabric (WOF) from selvage to selvage unless otherwise indicated.

From 80578241 Christmas Tree Panel Green:

*Trim panel to 23-1/2" x 43-1/2".

From 80196922 Prima Homespun White:

*Cut two 1-3/4" x WOF strips. Sub-cut thirty-two 1-3/4" squares.

From 80578212 Candy Canes Black:

*Cut one 3" x WFO strip. Sub-cut four 3" squares.

From 80578210 Gingerbread Cookies Tan:

*Cut one 3" x WFO strip. Sub-cut twelve 3" squares.

From 80578186 Packed Snowmen Red:

*Cut one 3" x WFO strip. Sub-cut six 3" squares.

From 80196977 Prima Homespun Grass Green:

*Cut four 1-3/4" x WOF strips. Sub-cut eighty 1-3/4" squares.

From 80196917 Prima Homespun Black:

*Cut three 1-3/4" x WOF strips. Sub-cut sixty-four 1-3/4" squares.

*Cut three 3" x WOF strips. Sub-cut sixty-four 1-3/4" x 3" strips

From 80331749 Prima Homespun Xmas Red:

*Cut two 1-3/4" x WOF strips. Sub-cut forty-eight 1-3/4" squares.

*Cut six 2-1/2" x WOF strips for binding.

From 80196927 Prima Homespun Ivory:

*Cut seven 1-3/4" x WOF strips. Sub-cut 160 1-3/4" squares.

*Cut three 3" x WOF strips. Sub-cut sixty-four 1-3/4" x 3" strips.

*Cut nine 1-1/2" x WOF strips for borders 1 and 3.

From 80578208 Christmas Ornaments Red:

*Cut one 3" x WFO strip. Sub-cut ten 3" squares.

*Cut six 4-1/2" x WOF strips for border 4.

Assemble Blocks

Note: Measurements include 1/4" seam allowances. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated. If no direction is specified, press the seam toward the darker fabric.

Instructions

Step 1- Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 1-3/4" Prima Homespun White squares. With right sides together, layer a marked White square on the left short end of a 1-3/4" x 3" Prima Homespun Black strip and stitch on the drawn line. Trim 1/4" away from the seam line and press open. Similarly, stitch another White square to the opposite end of the same Black strip (figure 1). Repeat to make a total of sixteen 1-3/4" x 3" flying-geese units.

Step 2- Noting fabric orientation, sew a Step 1 unit to opposite sides of one 3" Candy Canes Black square (figure 2). Press the seams toward the center. Repeat to make four block centres.

Step 3- Sew a 1-3/4" Prima Homespun Black to opposite sides of the remaining Step 1 flying geese (figure 3). Press the seams away from the centre.

Step 4- Noting fabric orientation, sew one Step 3 strip to the top and one to the bottom of the Step 2 block centres to make four 5-1/2" star blocks (figure 4). Press the seams toward the centre.

Step 5- Repeat steps 1-4 with the fabrics listed in Table 1 above to make twenty-eight 5-1/2" star blocks for a total of thirty-two blocks of assorted colours.

Assemble Quilt Top

Step 6- For border 1, join the nine 1-1/2" Prime Homespun Ivory strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Measure the vertical length of the quilt top through the centre and cut two border strips that length. Sew one strip to each side of the quilt top and press the seams toward the border strips. Measure the width of the quilt top through the centre. Cut two border strips that length and sew one to the top and one to the bottom. Press the seams toward the borders. Save remaining long strip for border 3. The quilt measures 25-1/2" x 45-1/2" up to here.

Step 7- For border 2 and referring to the quilt photo for block placement, arrange nine blocks for each side of the quilt. Sew blocks together and sew one border strip to each side of the quilt centre. Press the seam toward quilt centre.

Step 8- Repeat Step 7 with seven blocks and sew one border strip to the top and one to the bottom of the quilt centre.

Step 9- Repeat Step 6 with the leftover 1-1/2" Prime Homespun Ivory strip to make and add border 3.

Step 10- Repeat Step 6 with the six 4-1/2" Christmas Ornaments Red strips to make and add border 4.

Finishing:

Step 11- Create a quilt sandwich with the batting between the quilt top and the backing. Pin or baste layers together, mark quilting design, and quilt by hand or machine. When quilting is complete, remove pins or basting, and trim batting and backing even with raw edges of the quilt top.

Step 12- Join the six 2-1/2" Prima Homespun Xmas Red strips together end to end using a diagonal seam to make one long strip. Fold in half lengthwise and press. Sew binding to the edges of the quilt, mitering corners, and overlapping ends. Fold binding to the back of the quilt and stitch it in place by hand to finish.
