SOFT AND HAZY FINGERLESS MITTENS

Level: Beginner
What you'll need:
- 4 Seasons Soft & Hazy 10 Ply Yarn 50 g:
- Very Indigo x 2
- Size 5 mm knitting needles.
- Spare yarn in contrast colour to mark thumb openings.
- Yarn needle, scissors, tape measure.
Finished Size
OSFA: Approx. 20 cm wide (slightly stretched) x 23cm long.
Tension
20 sts x 28 rows to 10 cm in broken rib patt, using 5 mm knitting needles.
Instructions
Note: Mittens are identical. Eyelet row for twisted cord is optional. If omitted, cont in patt for a total of 62 rows or length preferred. Opening for thumb is made by leaving a gap in side seam. For a firmer fit, work an oversew stitch between Index & Middle fingers as set out.
Mittens (make 2)
Using 5 mm knitting needles, leaving long tail for sewing, cast on 41sts.
1st Row (RS) - *K3, P1*, rep from *to* to last st, K1.
Last row forms patt.
Cont in patt for another 31 rows more.
Eyelet Row (optional) -
Next Row (RS) - *K3, P1, yfwd, sl 2sts tog, knitwise, K1, psso (pass slipped sts over), yfwd*, rep from *to* until 2sts rem, P1, K1 ... 41sts.
Cont in patt for another 7 rows more, tie coloured threads at both ends to mark beg of thumb opening.
Work another 8 more rows patt, tie coloured threads at both ends of work to mark end of thumb opening.
Cont in patt for another 14 rows more, cast off in patt leaving long tail for sewing.
Finishing
Using tails at cast-on and cast-off, sew side seam up and down to thumb opening (coloured threads). Using some spare yarn, work an oversew stitch between index & middle fingers on opposite sides for right-hand & left-hand mitten (make a pair). Sew in all ends.
Twisted Cord (make 2 only, if Eyelet Row worked)
Cut 3 strands of yarn 2m long and make a twisted cord, thread through eyelet row and tie.
