Spruced Christmas Tree Cake Project

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Favorite Cake Mix or Recipe
  • Creamy White Decorator Icing, 4 lb. Tub
  • Lemon Yellow Icing Color, 1 oz.
  • Kelly Green Icing Color, 1 oz.
  • Juniper Green Icing Color, 1 oz.
  • Black Icing Color, 1 oz.
  • Royal Blue Icing Color, 1 oz. - Blue Food Coloring
  • Christmas Red Icing Color, 1 oz.
  • Sky Blue Icing Color, 1 oz.
  • Moss Green Icing Color, 1 oz.
  • Red-Red Icing Color, 1 oz.
  • Round Cake Decorating Tip 2
  • Non-Stick Cooling Grid - 14.5 x 20-Inch - Cooling Rack
  • Open Star Cake Decorating Tip 18

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1 - Bake cake. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool three cake layers. Trim one layer to 1 in. high. Fill and stack layers for 5 in. high cake.

Step 2 - Ice cake smooth using white icing.

Step 3 - Tint icing. Tint 1/2 cup icing lime green, 1/4 cup icing dark green, 1/4 cup icing teal green and 1/4 cup icing red using color combinations provided. Combine Moss Green and Lemon Yellow icing colors to get lime green color shown. Combine Kelly Green, Royal Blue and touch of Black icing colors to get dark green color shown. Combine Sky Blue, Lemon Yellow and touch of Black icing colors to get teal green color shown. Combine Red-Red and Christmas Red icing colors to get red color shown.

Using Juniper Green icing color, tint 1/2 cup icing juniper green.

Step 4

Prepare decorating bags as follows:

  • Tip 2 and red icing
  • Tip 18 and lime green icing
  • Tip 3 and dark green icing
  • Tip 5 and teal green icing
  • Tip 16 and juniper green icing

Step 5 - Decorate cake. Using bag with tip 2 and red icing, pipe bunting using dots of red icing. Lowest part of bunting should measure about 1 1/4 in. from top of cake and be about 1 1/2 in. wide.

Using remaining prepared decorating bags, pipe trees around sides of cake, varying in height.
