Instructions

Create your Diamond shape pattern piece for the cushion! Start by ruling a 16cm horizontal Line. Rule a 25cm vertical line directly through the centre, making sure that it even on each side. Join lines to create a diamond shape. Cut out.

Step 1- Cut 4 Diamonds of each of the three designs, making sure to place any patterns you'd like to feature on the cushion on the centre of the diamond.

Step 2- Arrange six of the diamonds into a design you like- alternating the pattens.

Step 3- With one diamond pin the two diamonds on either side together so that the points meet in the middle. Machine stitch together.

Step 4- Press open seams, you will now have half a star shape.
Repeat with the other three diamonds so that you now have two halves.

Step 5- Place the two half star pieces right sides together and pin, again making sure the points meet in the middle. Machine stitch down and press open this centre seam.

Step 6- Repeat Steps 2 to 5 to make up the back of the cushion.

Step 7- Pin the front and back cushion pieces right sides together and machine-stitch around the edges, leaving a gap on the side of one of the points for turning through.

Step 8- Snip notches into the inner points and across the outer points. Turn the cushion right side out, carefully pushing out the points- a pair of closed scissors or a knitting needle can help push out the points completely. Press.

Step 9- Stuff the cushion with Hobby fill- starting with the points of the stars. Slip stitch the opening closed.

Step 10- Thread a long sewing needle with thread (we used two threads in the one needle for extra strength) and knot the end. Sew three small stitches at the centre of the cushion front, thread through your button and carefully push the needle through to the centre point of the back of the cushion.

Step 11- Thread the needle through the back button, then push the needle back up through to the cushion front. Slowly pull on your thread to draw the two buttons towards each other.
Repeat three times, and finish with a few stitches to secure under the button.
