What are interfacings and why should I use them?
Interfacing is a common material that is often used in sewing projects, stiffening and strengthening it. It can stabilise and aid in design when you are making crafts and home decor items - interfacing prevents stretching and distortion when you are doing embroidery, and it can also add weight or warmth to your handcrafted quilt. Our selection of interfacing is pre-cut and perforated, allowing for more precise folding and easy stitching and is available now at Spotlight's guaranteed low prices.
How do I use interfacing in my textiles project?
That depends on what you are doing really and the materials and styles of your final creation. A neat and carefully made waistband is a prerequisite to a well-tailored design, and our Birch Interfacing Waistband provides a sturdy waist for your handmade skirt or trousers. To create a straight waistband using this interfacing, first of all, cut the waistband fabric. This should only be attached when the rest of the item has been finished and it should be around 1.5 inches. The length of the waistband should also take a 1-inch seam allowance and any overlaps for fasteners into consideration. Sew our Waistband interfacing on to the wrong side of the waistband fabric, before joining the waistband and the skirt waist. This can be sewn by hand, however, using a sewing machine would be significantly easier. Apply a top stitch on the seam line for a professional-looking finish.
How should I care for and maintain garments that feature interfacing?
Always check the individual care label on items to ensure that your material is machine washable. Our interfacing is made using 100% polyester and can be washed on a warm setting, and it is also dry cleanable. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals such as chlorine and bleach.
