Why Do I Need A Roasting Pan And Rack?

Roasting meat helps to create a well-browned exterior with a tender, juicy centre, and it is a simple way to cook for even the newest home cooks. But what is a roasting pan and rack? A heavy roasting pan is a wide metal tray with high sides, designed to help to distribute heat evenly across our meat and veg, whereas, a roasting rack suspends food to help keep the meat out of the juices. This is particularly beneficial when you are roasting a turkey or chicken and hoping for a nice crispy skin. Just pop it into one of our roasting pans and let your rack do the talking! With fabulously low deals across the range, shop our selection of roasting cookware today.

Roasting FAQs

How do I roast meat properly?

Roasting is probably one of the easiest cooking methods out there - all you need to do is pop your delicious meat or vegetables in the oven, where they require little or no attention during the process. Always preheat your oven to the recipe's required temperature to ensure successful roasting. Use low to moderate heat for a large roast to cook your joint evenly, and remember you can always turn the oven up for a little while at the end if you are hoping for an extra crispy skin!

If you are cooking meat and hoping for the juiciest, most tender result, it is recommended that you allow the meat to stand for around an hour to help it come to room temperature before popping it into the oven.

Use butcher's twine to tie up poultry and some joints as they cook as this will help the meat to hold its shape, and a meat thermometer will help you to check when your roast is complete without overcooking it and drying it out.

All meat should rest for between 10-20 minutes after you have removed it from the oven, as this will allow the juices to redistribute through the protein.

Wondering what to cook in a roasting pan? Meats include a roast leg of lamb, whole roast chicken, pork belly and even a turkey. Vegetables like potatoes, carrots, broccoli, onion and parsnip all become tender and sweet in a roasting pan as well.

How to clean a dirty roasting pan

Looking after your roasting trays and racks properly will help them maintain their shape and coating, allowing them to perform at peak capacity for longer. Some of our trays are dishwasher safe, however washing by hand is usually the preferred option to ensure optimum performance for longer. Please ensure that you allow the pan to cool properly before washing it in warm water.

If you are struggling with a particularly dirty roasting tray, bicarb soda is a great way to get rid of those stubborn parts. If you are confused about how to degrease a roasting pan, this method can help with that too! For extra stubborn stains, leave your tray to soak in hot water and dishwashing detergent.

How to cook a turkey in a roasting pan

Turkeys are big, but cooking them doesn't need to be any harder than roasting a chicken. Ensure your rack can safely hold your turkey, and be sure to pop some tasty veg like carrots, potatoes and onion underneath in the tray to cook at the same time.

Make sure to cover your turkey with foil for half the time you cook it, then uncover it for the remaining period. This ensures your bird is thoroughly cooked through, while also boasting a golden, crispy skin!
