Can I purchase quilting precuts at Spotlight?

Yes, you can. As well as a huge range of quilting fabrics by the metre, Spotlight also stocks a great selection of quilting precuts for you to choose from. These precut pieces of material mean you can mix and match to your heart’s content from the range of colours and designs on offer to create your completely individual and unique quilted object. There are also a couple of bundles on offer.

What size are the quilting precuts?

Quilting precuts tend to be sold in a standard size, here referred to as Fat Flats. In some parts of the world, these pieces of material are referred to as Fat Quarters or FQs. The size of these precuts is generally around 50 x 52 cm, although some companies vary their sizes and they can be sized at 46 x 56 cm or similar. In effect, buying 4 fat quarters gives you roughly the same as buying a yard (90 cm) of fabric, but you will be able to have 4 different designs or colours.

What type of fabric are the quilting precuts made from?

Virtually all quilting precuts are made from 100% cotton, but it is always wise to check the product description if you are unsure about a particular item. For certain projects, you may also want to use other types of fabric such as flannelette or terry towelling. It is important to make sure that you wash your quilting precuts before use in case of shrinkage or colour bleeding, which is much more difficult to deal with once your quilted project is finished.

What else is included in the quilting precuts range at Spotlight?

If you are new to the world of quilting or are unsure about which designs and/or colours work well together or how much material you may need, you can find some great quilting kits here at Spotlight. Quilting kits usually contain everything you need to complete your project, or will set out exactly what you need to add for filling and backing material.

Which quilted projects can I find included in the kits?

Our selection is added to regularly, but you will usually find kits here for small quilts, suitable for baby cots or kids bedrooms, as well as quilt for panels or bedspreads in larger sizes. Check out the various kits on offer to find the size of the complete project.

What is a jelly roll?

Jelly rolls are bundles of fabric strips that have been gathered together to complement each other and can be used for many quilting projects. The sizes of the strips are usually around 6 cm wide by about a metre long, and you can, of course, use the strips as they are or cut them into smaller pieces for your own design. Choose from various designs in attractive colour schemes in both cotton and flannelette fabrics for a variety of projects.
