Making the Head

Cutting the pattern pieces - Please print the patterns on an A3 size sheet. Increase scale as per requirement if you want to make a bigger or smaller Koala Stuffed Animal.

Step 1- Using a marker, trace the ear pattern piece on the back of the fur. When cutting fur, ensure that you are only cutting the backing of the fabric and not the hair.

TIP- Using the tip of your scissors, point them upwards and slowly snip at the backing to keep the length of the fur. Small snips across the backing of the fur fabric there should be minimal hair loss.

Step 2- Pin the earpieces together with right sides facing together (the fur on the inside). While pining, push the fur in towards the center of the ear all the way around. Using a sewing machine, sew around the ears and stuff with hobby fill.

Step 3- Using the felt fabric and the template cut the facial features for the koala. Pin the features on the front of the koala's head (only one piece for the head). Line them to give your Koala your desired expression and personality. These features can be sewn on by hand or by machine.

Step 4- Pin the head front and back (right sides facing) with ears between in desired position. Sew around and leave opening at the bottom of the head for turning.

Step 5- Stuff the head tight with hobby fill.

Making the Body

Step 1 - Cut the arms and legs out of the main body fabric. With right side facing sew the arms and legs as pairs - ensure that you leave an opening at the top to allow for stuffing. Tightly stuff the limbs with hobby fill.

Step 2- Line up the filled limbs on the koala's body with the notches on the pattern. Pin the body (right sides facing) with limbs between the two layers of fabric.

Step 3- Sew around the edge of the body, avoiding the legs and arm. Ensue that a gap is left open at the top of the body.

Step 4 - Turn the body out and tightly stuff the Kolas body with hobby fill.

Joining the Head and the Body

Step 1- Using a sewing needle and thread, hand sew the head bottom opening to the body top opening. Ensure that you add extra stuffing as you sew to add support to the neck.

Your Koala is ready!
