Make a Magic Ring

Rnd 1(RS): 3ch(counts as first tr), 2 tr, into ring, 2ch(corner), (3tr, 2ch) 3 times into ring. Tighten the ring, join with a sl st into the 3rd ch at the beg of the rnd. Fasten off.

Rnd 2: Draw up a loop in starting 2ch-sp corner, 3ch(counts as first tr), 2tr in same 2ch- sp, 1ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr 1ch) in each 2ch-sp (3 sets), 3tr in same 2ch-sp as starting 3tr set, 2ch, join with a sl st into the 3rd ch at the beg of the rnd. Fasten off.

Rnd 3: Draw up a loop in starting 2ch-sp corner, 3ch(counts as first tr), 2tr in same 2ch- sp, 1ch, 3tr in next 1ch-sp, 1 ch, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr 1ch) in next 2ch-sp, repeat from 2 more times, 3tr in next 1ch-sp, 1ch, 3tr in same 2ch-sp as starting 3tr set, 2ch, join with a sl st into the 3rd ch at the beg of the rnd. Fasten off.

Rnd 4: Draw up a loop in starting 2ch-sp corner, 1ch, (1dc, 6ch, 1dc) in same 2ch-sp, (5ch, 1dc in next 1ch-sp) 2 times, 5ch, (1dc, 6ch, 1dc) in next 2-ch-sp, repeat from twice more, (5ch, 1dc in next 1ch-sp) 2 times, 5ch, join with a sl st into the first dc at the beg of the rnd.

Rnd 5: 3ch(counts as first tr), 9tr in 6ch-sp, 1dc in next 5ch-sp, (5ch, 1dc in next 5ch-sp) twice, 10tr in next 6ch-sp, repeat from twice more, (1dc in next 5ch-sp, 5ch) twice, 1dc in last 5ch-sp, join with a sl st into the 3rd ch at the beg of the rnd.

Rnd 6: Sl st into the back loop of the next tr, 1dc in next tr. 5ch, (1dc, 6ch, 1dc) in between 5th and 6th tr of 10tr of rnd 5, 5ch, sk2 sts, 1dc in next st, (5ch, 1dc in next 5ch-sp) twice, 5ch, 1dc, in 2nd tr of next 10tr set, 5ch, repeat from twice more (1dc, 6ch, 1dc) in between 5th and 6th tr of 10tr, 5ch, sk2 sts, 1dc in next st, (5ch, 1dc in next 5ch-sp) twice, 5ch, join with a sl st into the first dc at the beg of the rnd. Fasten off.

Rnd 7: Draw up a loop in first 6ch-sp corner, 3ch(counts as first tr), 2tr in same 2ch- sp, 1ch, (3tr in next 5ch-sp, 1 ch) 5 times, (3tr, 2ch, 3tr 1ch) in next 6ch-sp, repeat from 2 more times, (3tr in next 5ch-sp, 1 ch) 5 times, 3tr in same 2ch-sp as starting 3tr set, 2ch, join with a sl st into the 3rd ch at the beg of the rnd. Fasten off.

Rnd 8: Draw up a loop in first back loop of last ch before the sl-st, 2dc in same loop, 1 dc in the back loop of each stitch up to the next 2ch-sp corner, 2dc in each of the back loop of this 2ch-sp, repeat from 2 more times, 1 dc in the back look of each stitch up to the last 2ch-sp corner, 2dc in first ch, sl st in first dc of the round. Fasten off.


Right Leg

Block your squares if necessary to ensure same size.

Join 1 of each colour square as follows:

Using MC and with wrong sides facing, draw up a loop through the back loops of 2 squares on any corner. Work 1dc in each stitch through the back loops only, to the end. Fasten off.

Repeat to join the next square.

Repeat to join to make a tube. DO NOT fasten off last join.


Hem Edging

Rnd 1: Using MC, 1ch, 1dc in the back loop of each stitch, to the end of the rnd. Sl st in the first dc, and fasten off. 99 sts.

Rnd 2: Using Col2, 2ch, 1htr in each stitch, to the end of the rnd. Sl st in the first htr, and fasten off. 99 sts.

Rnd 3: Using Col4, draw up a loop at the start of the round. 1ch, 1dc, 3ch, 1sl st in side of dc to create a picot stitch in same stitch. 1 dc in next st, (1dc. 3 ch, 1sl st in side of the dc) in next stitch, repeat from to the end of the round. Sl st in first dc at the start of the round. Fasten off. This round end, will become the inside leg.


Upper Leg

Rnd 1: Using MC draw up a loop at the inside leg join, 1ch, 1dc in same stitch. 1dcdec in next st, 1 dc in next st, repeat from to the end of the round. Sl st in the first dc, 66sts. Fasten off.

Rnd 2: Using Col 4 draw up a loop at the start of the round. 3 ch(counts as first tr) 1tr in each stitch to the end, sl st in 3rd ch at the start of the round. Fasten off.

Rnd 3: Using Col 5 draw up a loop at the start of the round. 3 ch(counts as first tr) 2tr in same stitch as ch (sk 2 sts, 3tr in next st)to the end of the round, sl st in 3rd ch at the start of the round. Fasten off.

Rnd 4: Repeat Round 2 with Col1.

Rnd 5: Using MC draw up a loop at the start of the round. 2 ch(counts as first htr) 1htr in each stitch to the end, sl st in 2nd ch at the start of the round. Fasten off.

Rnd 6: Repeat Round 2 with Col2.

Rnd 7: Repeat Round 3 with Col3.

Rnd 8: Repeat Round 2 with Col4.

Rnd 9: Repeat Round 5 with MC.

Repeat round 9 until the leg measures 34[40] or required inside leg measurement.


Crutch Shaping

Next Round: 1 sl st in next 2 sts, 1dc in next 2sts, 1htr in next 58 sts. 1dc in next 2sts. Fasten off.


Left Leg

Repeat for Right leg to , placing granny squares in desired position to the right leg.


Body with Shaping

Pin the centre 12 sts (6 on either side of the start of the round, the crutch shaping)

Using MC draw up a loop at the first stitch, and work 1 sl st through each st of the right and left leg crutch shaping.

Rnd 1: 2ch(counts as first htr) 1htr in each st around the body. Sl st in 2nd ch at the start of the round. 108 sts.

Rnd 2: 2ch(counts as first htr) 1Htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in next 51sts, 1htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in remaining 52 sts around the body. Sl st in 2nd ch at the start of the round. 106 sts.

Rnd 3: 2ch(counts as first htr) 1Htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in next 50sts, 1htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in remaining 51 sts around the body. Sl st in 2nd ch at the start of the round. 104 sts.

Rnd 4: 2ch(counts as first htr) 1Htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in next 49sts, 1htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in remaining 50 sts around the body. Sl st in 2nd ch at the start of the round. 102 sts.

Rnd 5: 2ch(counts as first htr) 1Htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in next 48sts, 1htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in remaining 49 sts around the body. Sl st in 2nd ch at the start of the round. 100 sts.

Rnd 6-8: 2ch(counts as first htr) 1htr in each st around the body. Sl st in 2nd ch at the start of the round.

Rnd 9: 2ch(counts as first htr) 1Htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in next 47sts, 1htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in remaining 48 sts around the body. Sl st in 2nd ch at the start of the round. 98 sts.

Rnd 10-12: 2ch(counts as first htr) 1htr in each st around the body. Sl st in 2nd ch at the start of the round.

Rnd 13: 2ch(counts as first htr) 1Htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in next 46sts, 1htrdec over next 2sts, 1htr in remaining 47 sts around the body. Sl st in 2nd ch at the start of the round. 96 sts.

Rnd 14: 2ch(counts as first htr) 1htr in each st around the body. Sl st in 2nd ch at the start of the round.

Repeat Rnd 14 until work measures 50[55] cm from the beg, or 1cm less than required body height.


Waist Shaping

Rnd 1: 2ch, 1htr in next 29 sts, 1dc in next 36 sts, 1htr in next 30sts. Sl st in 2nd chain at the beg of the round.

Rnd 2: 2ch, 1htr in next 23 sts, 1dc in next 48 sts, 1htr in next 24sts. Sl st in 2nd chain at the beg of the round.


Casing for Elastic

Rnd 1: Ch 3(counts as first tr), 1tr in the back loop of each stitch. Sl st in 3rd chain at the beg of the round.

Rnd 2: Ch 3(counts as first tr), 1tr in each stitch. Sl st in 3rd chain at the beg of the round. Fasten off leaving a 1 metre tail for sewing.


Finishing

Join elastic to form a round either on a machine or hand-sewn.

Place the elastic around the waist and fold at the line created by working into the back loop. Pin and sew in the casing to the body using an over-sew stitch loosely to keep some stretch.

Weave in loose ends.
