What is the difference between cups, grams and ounces?
If you are using recipes from around the world, it can be challenging to work out how much of each ingredient you will need, especially when everyone appears to be using a different system. If you are unsure of the difference between grams, cups and ounces, keep our handy table below close by when you are baking.
Cups Grams Ounces
1/4 cup 55 g 1.9 oz.
1/3 cup 73 g 2.58 oz.
1/2 cup 110 g 3.88 oz.
1 cup 220 g 7.75 oz.
What do I need to consider when choosing a baking tray or dish?
After size, the most important thing to consider when selecting your baking tray or dish is the material that it is made out of.
Metal: Metal baking trays and dishes is an ideal medium for conducting heat and ensuring that your foods are baked evenly. A lighter metal is more suited for even browning, but a darker coloured metal is perfect for creating bread crust.
Glass: Glass also conducts heat extremely effectively, and it makes for a beautiful aesthetic as you can see the food as it is cooking. However, recipes with a high amount of sugar may not be suitable for cooking in glass baking tray, as they may begin to burn before they are properly cooked through.
Ceramic: Ceramic also conducts heat well, yet again it may not be suitable for dishes with a high sugar count. Ceramic is also one of the most attractive materials used for bakeware and is ideal for serving straight from the oven to the table.
Silicone: Silicone baking trays and dishes have become increasingly popular in more recent years. One of the most significant benefits of using a silicone tray is that they do not require any additional non-stick sprays or oils. They are great for using for recipes that result in sticky baked goods.
If you are passionate about baking, we advise having a selection of different baking trays, which are made from the various different materials that are available. With our guaranteed low prices across the whole collection, stock up now and be prepared for the next time inspiration strikes.
