Do I need to prepare my fabric linings?
The material that you use for your lining and the fabric for the curtains may shrink at different rates and can result in the curtains becoming unsightly. It is recommended that you wash your fabric prior to making your sewing project in order to take potential shrinkage into consideration.
Which fabric linings would be right for my curtains?
Well, that depends on what you are creating, and there are several things to consider when you are choosing your lining fabric. First of all, it is important to think about the material that you are using for your curtain and the style that you are hoping to achieve. If you are making curtains for the bedroom or another room which you would like to keep dark, then blockout curtain linings could be an excellent choice. Alternately, thermal linings have been purposely designed to provide that extra layer of insulation. Often curtain linings are in a neutral shade, and it is important that this complements the overall design of your main curtain fabric.
How should I wash my new fabric lining?
Well, that depends on which of our fabric linings you have chosen, and we always recommend that you read the manufacturer's care instructions carefully before you begin. If you have chosen sun out, blockout or thermal, these fabrics have been specially treated, and it is recommended that you hand wash only. When you are hand washing your new curtains, you need to be gentle, and not wring or twist the curtains at any time. Ensure that they are thoroughly rinsed before you hang to dry, most of our curtain fabrics cannot be tumble dried. Do not fold your curtains over the line or anywhere else when you are drying them, instead hang directly at the window to maintain those perfect pleats. Finally, always avoid the use of any harsh chemicals and abrasive solutions, including chlorine and bleach.
