How much curtain heading tape will I require for my project?

Well, that does depend on the width of your curtains, as you will require one length of heading tape for each curtain. Before you begin, it is important that you measure your window to ensure that you have the right measurement. We recommend using a metal tape measure for extra accuracy, yet if you already have curtains in place, it may be easier just to measure these directly. Some of our heading tape is sold by the metre so that you can order exactly how much you require for your project. We always recommend ordering just a little extra, just in case!

How do I use curtain heading tape?

Well, that does depend on which of our curtain tapes you have chosen and the overall effect that you are hoping to achieve. Sewing your curtain heading tape by machine is the quickest and easiest way to affix it. To create gather, measure your curtain pole and add 6 inches then divide the total by two. This is the width that you must pull your curtains too, using the strings on the heading tape. Take hold of the loose ends and pull the cords evenly to create nice and straight pleats. When your curtain width is equal to the previous measurements, your curtains are ready to hang.

Once your gathers are even and your pleats are pleated, it is time to put the hooks or gliders on that will attach your curtains to your curtain track. Count out how many curtain hooks you have, and then ensure that these are distributed evenly throughout your heading tape. Get help hanging your curtains, it can be a challenge keeping them in place and having someone to hold the weight of your drapes while you hang them will make the job significantly easier.
