MICKEY MOUSE FLOOR CUSHION

LEVEL: EASY

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• 2.2m Mickey Newsprint Allover Drill, multi (outer)
• 2.2m Prima Homespun, white (inner)
• 51cm Dress Zipper, white
• Hobby Fill
• Matching Gutermann thread
• Pins, tape measure
• Scissors, seam ripper
• Hand needle
• Sewing machine with zipper foot
• Paper for Mickey head pattern
• Light cardstock or heavy paper

1cm seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated.

Read all instructions carefully before commencing the project.

CUTTING

Press homespun fabric in half lengthways, selvedges together. Pin straight edge of pattern along the fold and cut out front. Repeat to cut out a second head for the back.

Press Mickey fabric in half lengthways, selvedges together. Pin straight edge of pattern along the fold and cut out front.

For the back pin the straight edge of the pattern 1cm in from the fold and cut out.

Cut along the fold to separate into two pieces to allow a seam for the zipper.

INSTRUCTIONS

Inner

Step 1 -pin the two homespun heads right sides facing and sew together around the edge leaving a 10cm opening in the bottom edge.

Step 2 - Clip into corners at each side of the ears and clip into seam allowance around the curves. Turn right side out through the opening and press.

Step 3 -Use hobby fill to fill the inside, ensure you push hobby fill up into the ears.

Step 4 -When you are happy with the fullness in the cushion sew the opening closed.

Outer

Step 5 - Place one half head piece right side up and pin zipper wrong side up along the straight edge 2cm up from the bottom edge.

Note - edge of zipper and edge of fabric arealigned with fabric and zipper right sides facing.

Step 6 - Using zipper foot sew down edge. Press fabric away from zipper.

Step 7 -Place the other half head piece right side up and place zipper wrong side up along the straight edge 2cm up from the bottom edge. Note - edge of zipper and edge of fabric are baligned with fabric already attached to the zipper on top. Pin in place and using zipper foot sew down edge as before and press.

Step 8 -Pin front and back Mickey heads together around the edges and undo zipper about 10cm. Sew front and back together all around the edge.

Step 9 - Clip into corners at each side of the ears and clip into seam allowance around the curves. Open zipper fully and turn right side out. Press.

Step 10 -To insert inner into outer head, insert the inner ears up into the head and then manipulate the fill to ensure it is still evenly spaced. Push the inner cushion into edges of the outer cover and close zipper.
