Level: Easy
What You'll Need:
- Twist Yarn 100g x 1 ball 1st Colour (C1-white): 1 ball 2nd Colour (C2-red), 1 ball 3rd Colour (C3-green)
- Tinsel Yarn 50g x small amount in silver for pom pom
- 1 pair 5mm knitting needles or size required to give correct tension.
- Pom pom maker
- Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure
Measurements
To Fit Head (approx) 56-58 cm
Tension
17 sts and 22 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 5mm needles and Twist Yarn.
INSTRUCTIONS
Hat
Using 5mm needles and C1, cast on 86 sts.
Beg Brim - Work in stocking st until work measures 6cm from beg, ending with a purl row. Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row.
Cont in stocking st until work measures 12cm from beg, ending with a purl row, thus completing brim. (approx 6cm will roll to RS).
Beg Stripes - Using C2, work 4 rows stocking st.
Using C3, work 4 rows stocking st.
Last 8 rows form stripes throughout.
Cont in stripes until work measures 13cm from coloured threads, ending with a purl row, dec 4 sts evenly across last row ... 82 sts.
Beg Shaping - Keeping stripes correct, 1st row - K1, K2tog, K8, rep from to last st, K1 ... 74 sts.
Work 7 rows.
9th row - K1, K2tog, K7, rep from to last st, K1 ... 66 sts.
Work 7 rows.
17th row - K1, K2tog, K6, rep from to last st, K1 ... 58 sts.
Work 7 rows.
25th row - K1, K2tog, K5, rep from to last st, K1 ... 50 sts.
Cont dec in this manner (working one st less between dec) in every foll 8th row until 10 sts rem.
Work 3 rows.
Break off yarn, leaving a long end. Run end through rem st, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.
Finishing
DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st seam, join side edges together to form centre back seam, revesing seam for 6cm of brim and matching stripes.
Using Tinsel Yarn, make a medium sized pom pom and attach to tip of hat as pictured.
