What You'll Need:

  • Fabrics are from 'Cretaceous World' range
  • 2 x Panels
  • 70cm Fabric A - Dino Eggs, Brown (includes binding)
  • 70cm Fabric B - Fossils, Olive
  • 70cm Fabric C - Dinos, Natural
  • 70cm Fabric D - Packed Dinos, Multi
  • 1.4m x 250cm wide Backing fabric of choice
  • 1.4m Legacy cotton/bamboo batting
  • Matching Gutermann 100% cotton thread
  • Rotary cutter, mat & quilters rulers
  • Quilting pins, tape measure
  • Scissors, seam ripper
  • Hand needle
  • Sewing machine with ¼" foot & walking foot

Quilt measures: 51" x 56" (130cm x 142cm)

All fabrics should be 100% cotton, washed & pressed. ¼" seam allowance used throughout unless otherwise indicated. Read all instructions carefully before commencing the quilt.

INSTRUCTIONS

Cutting

All strips are cut across the width of fabric unless otherwise stated.

  • Cut all 6 blocks from one Panel ?" outside the coloured border. Select 3 blocks from 2nd Panel and cut ?" outside the coloured border. This gives you 9 blocks for the quilt top.
  • From Fabric A cut 7 x 2" strips for block borders and 6 x 2½" for biding.
  • From Fabric B cut 6 x 2" strips for block borders.
  • From Fabric C cut 2 x 6" wide strips.
  • From Fabric D cut 2 x 5½" strips lengthways down the fabric for side borders - cut 6 x 2" strips across the remaining fabric for top and bottom borders.

Step 1 - Layout the 9 blocks for the quilt top in 3 rows of 3 blocks as desired or refer to image.

Use Fabric A for borders of Blocks 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 - Fabric B for Blocks 2, 4, 6 and 8.

Step 2 - Fabric A Borders for Blocks 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9: Sew a 2" Fabric A strip to each side of Block 1. Press seam towards border and trim off excess fabric. Sew a strip to top and bottom edges, press seam towards border and trim off excess. Repeat for Blocks 3, 5, 7 & 9.

Step 3 - Fabric B Borders for Blocks 2, 4, 6 & 8: Sew a 2" Fabric A strip to each side of Block 2. Press seam towards border and trim off any excess fabric. Sew a strip to top and bottom edges, press seam towards border and trim off any excess fabric. Repeat for Blocks 4, 6 & 8.

Step 4 - Sew together blocks in each of the 3 rows. Press seams in one direction.

Step 5 - Sashing Sew a 6" Fabric C strip to the bottom edge of Row 1. Press seam towards sashing and trim off any excess fabric. Sew a 6" Fabric C strip to the bottom edge of Row 2. Press seam towards sashing and trim off any excess fabric.

Step 6 - Quilt Top Sew top edge of Row 2 to bottom edge of sashing on Row 1. Press seam towards sashing. Sew top edge of Row 3 to bottom edge of sashing on Row 2. Press seam towards sashing and trim off any excess fabric.

Step 7 - Outer Border Sew one 5½" Fabric D strip to each side of the quilt top. Press seams towards border and trim off any excess fabric.

Step 8 - Sew together 3 x 2" strips of Fabric D and press seams open. Sew strip to top edge of quilt top and trim off any excess fabric. Repeat for the bottom edge.

Step 9 - Layer the backing, batting and quilt top and baste together. Quilt as desired.

Step 10 - Join the 6 x 2½" binding strips on the bias to make one long strip. Press in half lengthwise and bind mitering corners. Attach a label or sign and date your quilt.
