Instructions

Tension

24 sts x 19 rows to 10cm over patt, using 4.5mm hook.

Note

Beanie is worked sideways, with the band added at the end.

Special abbreviations

Blbob - back loop bobble (yoh, pull loop through back loop of specified st/sp, yoh, pull through 2 loops on hook) 5 times, yoh, pull through all loops on hook.

Bldc - back loop double crochet

Blsl st - back loop slip stitch

Bptr - back post treble

Fptr - front post treble

Main piece (worked sideways)

Using 4.5mm hook, make 46ch.

1st row - 1dc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch to end, turn ... 45dc.

2nd row - 1ch (does not count as a st throughout), 1bldc in same and each of next 36 sts, 1blsl st in next st, turn.

3rd row - 1ch, 1blsl st in same st, 1bldc in each st to end.

4th row - 1ch, 1bldc in same and each of next 37sts, 1bltr in next st (2nd row), 1bldc in next st, 1blsl st in next st, turn.

5th row - 1ch, 1blsl st in same st, 1bldc in next st, * 1blbob in next st, 1bltr in each of next 2 sts, rep from * to end.

6th row - 1ch, 1bldc in same and each of next 40 sts, 1bltr in next st (2nd row), 1bldc in each of next 2 sts, 1blsl st in last st.

7th row - 1ch, 1bldc in same st and each st to end.

Rows 2 to 7 incl form patt.

Cont in patt until long edge measures approx 55cm (slightly stretched), ending with a 6th row.

Fasten off.

Beg band

Join yarn to one end of bottom (straight) edge and using 4.5mm hook - 1st row - 3ch (counts as tr), work 86tr evenly along bottom edge, turn.

2nd row - 1ch, 1htr in same st, 1bptr around next st, * 1fptr around next st, 1bptr around next st, rep from * to last st, 1htr in last st.

3rd row - 1ch, 1htr in same st, 1fptr around next st, * 1bptr around next st, 1fptr around next st, rep from * to last st, 1htr in last st.

Rows 2 and 3 incl form rib patt.

Cont in rib patt until 6 rows are completed (or longer if desired).

Fasten off, leaving long end for sewing.

Finishing

Do not press. Using long end left at bottom of Beanie and mattress st, join side edges tog to form centre back seam. Thread yarn through top of Beanie, draw up tightly to gather crown and fasten off securely. Sew in ends.
