SPECIAL STITCH

tr2tog - (yoh, insert hook in next st, draw a loop through, yoh, draw through 2 loops on hook) twice, yoh, draw through rem 3 loops on hook.

INSTRUCTIONS

HAT (beg at crown)

Using 5.5mm hook and C1, make magic ring.

1st round - 2ch (does not count as tr), 11tr in ring, miss 2ch, sl st into tr at beg ... 11 sts.

2nd round - 2ch, 2tr in same st, 2tr in each st around, miss 2ch, sl st into tr at beg ... 22 sts.

3rd round - 2ch, 2tr in same st, 1tr in next st, * 2tr in next st, 1tr in next st, rep from * around, miss 2ch, sl st into tr at beg ... 33 sts.

4th round - 2ch, 2tr in same st, 1tr in each of next 2 sts, * 2tr in next st, 1tr in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around, miss 2ch, sl st into tr at beg ... 44 sts.

5th round - 2ch, 2tr in same st, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, * 2tr in next st, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around, miss 2ch, sl st into tr at beg ... 55 sts.

6th round - 2ch, 2tr in same st, 1tr in each of next 4 sts, * 2tr in next st, 1tr in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around, miss 2ch, sl st into tr at beg ... 66 sts.

7th- 16th rounds incl - 2ch, 1tr in same st, 1tr in each st around, miss 2ch, sl st into tr at beg. Fasten off.

INNER EAR (make 2)

Using 5.5mm hook and C2, make 14ch.

1st row - Miss 3ch, 1tr in each ch to end ... 12 sts.

2nd row - 1ch, (1dc, 1ch) in same st (counts as tr), 1tr in each st to end.

3rd - 6th rows incl - Rep 2nd row.

7th row - 2ch, 1tr in next st (counts as tr2tog), 1tr in each st to last 2 sts, tr2tog ... 10 sts.

8th row - 2ch, 1tr in next st (counts as tr2tog), 1tr in each st to last 2 sts, tr2tog ... 8 sts.

9th row - 2ch, 1tr in next st (counts as tr2tog), 1tr in each st to last 2 sts, tr2tog ... 6 sts. Fasten off.

OUTER EAR (make 2)

Using 5.5mm hook and C1, work as for inner ear.

MUZZLE

Using 5.5mm hook and C2, make 7ch.

1st round - Miss 2ch, 3tr in next ch, 1tr in each of next 3ch, 6tr in last ch, rotate to work along other side of base ch, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, 3tr in next st, miss 2ch, sl st into tr at beg ... 18 sts.

2nd round - 2ch, 2tr in same st, 2tr in each of next 2 sts, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, 2tr in each of next 6 sts, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, 2tr in each of last 3 sts, miss 2ch, sl st into tr at beg ... 30 sts. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

NOSE

Using 5.5mm hook and C1, make a magic ring.

1st round - 1ch, (1dc, 3tr, sl st, 3tr, 1dc, 1tr) into ring, sl st into dc at beg. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

EYES

Using 5.5mm hook and C2, make a magic ring.

1st row - 3ch, 9tr in ring. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Place one inner ear against one outer ear. Using 5.5mm hook and C1, dc evenly around sides and top of both layers of ear. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Sew nose on to muzzle and embroider mouth with C1 as pictured. Sew muzzle to hat. Sew eyes and ears on to hat as pictured, making a fold on the ears as shown. Cut 16 x 10cm lengths of C1. With two strands tog knot around trs above eyes to make eyelashes and trim to 2cm. Cut multiple lengths of 15cm of both C1 and C2. Using one strand of each tog, knot around trs between ears, finishing level with the bottom of the ears and 3cm behind the ears. Trim as desired. Sew in ends.
