Palm Tote Bag Project

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Montreaux drill tropical palm in white (or any fabrics from the ducks, drill and canvas ranges)
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Pins
  • Sewing machine and thread
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Medium Iron on Interfacing (optional for straps)

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 - Cut 2 pieces of fabric 40cm wide X 50cm long. Cut 2 handles 6cm wide X 50cm long. Pin both bag pieces with right sides together, leaving the top open.

Step 2 - Sew down both long sides and across bottom of bag using a 1cm seam allowance.

Step 3 - Fold bag handles length wise with right sides together. Pin and sew along length of handles with a 1cm seam allowance. Turn the bag handle right side out and press flat. Sew a line of stitching close to the edge of both sides of bag handles.

Step 4 - To attach the handles lay them on the bag with the right sides together 10cm in from both sewn edges. Pin and stitch.

Step 5 - Fold the top of the bag down about .5cm and press. Then fold again 2cm and press again. The ends of the bag handles will be included in the folded top edge. Sew around the top of the bag 2cm from the top edge with the handles down.

Step 6 - Now flip the bag handles up so they are at the top. Press and pin in place. Sew all around the very top of the bag close to the edge making sure the bag handles are nice and flat.

Step 7 - Turn right side out and press.
