Fondant Giraffe Cake Topper Project

Instructions

Step 1 - Mix 120g of white fondant with 30g of yellow fondant Add in a 1/2 teaspoon of tylose and knead well. Cover the fondant when not in use.

Making the body

Step 1 - Roll 50g of fondant into a ball - using the side of your hands to form the ball into a tear drop shape then flatten both ends.

Step 2 - Insert a skewer into the body, leaving 2cm above the neck to later attach the head, using cutter, cut to length and

Making the front and back legs

Step 1 - Roll out the following:

  • 10g for the back leg x2
  • 1.5g of brown for the hooves x4
  • 12g for the front legs x2

Step 2 - To achieve the shape, roll them between the sides of your palms like you did for the body, just smaller. Flatten out the bottom of the front and back legs. Roll the brown fondant into balls and flatten them slightly.

Step 3 - Add a light brush of edible glue to the bottom of each leg and gently mould the brown hooves to the bottom of each one.

Step 4 - Brush a little amount of edible glue onto the body where the legs need to go and gently press them into place.

Step 5 - Use a tool to create some indents and details like toenails and knee creases. Set aside to dry.

The tail

Step 1 - Roll out 2g of fondant for the tail leaving a little bulb on one end. Using a smooth embossing wheel, create tail details on the rounded bulb end.

Step 2- Attach tail to the back of the body with a little edible glue and leave aside to dry.

The head

Step 1 - Roll up 45g of fondant. Shaping with your fingers.

Step 2 - Insert a hole for the skewer for later. Roll 5g of white fondant for the muzzle/ front of his face in the shape shown (like a large capsule).

Step 3 - Flatten the muzzle out a little and secure with edible glue secure into place on his face as shown.

Step 4 - Using a balling tool, make indents for the eyes, nostrils.

Step 5 - Roll 2 x 0.1g of white fondant into a two little balls. Add a tiny amount of edible glue to the eye sockets and place the black eyeballs inside as shown.

Step 6 - Roll out a little black fondant and cut out two tiny black circles and place in the pupils with a tiny brush of edible glue.

Step 7 - While you have the black rolled out, cut out some upper eyelids and place into place as shown.
