Getting started with eyelet curtains

As the name suggests, eyelet curtains have metal-ringed eyelets at the top of the curtain, through which you can thread your metal or wooden curtain rod. They come in a variety of styles, including some with thermal and blockout qualities, and no hooks, eyes or other fixings are needed, which makes eyelet curtains a no-fuss, affordable option for your windows.

Eyelet curtains can be fitted anywhere in the house where a curtain rod can be accommodated. If your window doesn't have enough space above it, you'll need to look for a different curtain type, such as a track fitted against the top of the window frame or against the ceiling.

The small eyelets normally let in a little bit of light so, if you're using these curtains in a bedroom, make sure the curtain rod is fixed slightly above the window to minimise the light, and opt for blockout eyelet curtains too.

Cleaning your eyelet curtains

It is always advised to refer to the laundry label or instructions on the packaging. However, if in doubt, handwashing and air/line-drying are the best methods for eyelet curtains because the movement of the washing machine and tumble dryer may damage or loosen the metal eyelets.

Other curtain accessories you may need

Whether you're hanging eyelet curtains, other ready made curtains or making your own, there are practical curtain accessories you might like to put in your shopping cart but also some that serve decorative purposes so your curtains blend beautifully with your home décor.

Curtain rods and curtain poles - for ensuring your curtains hang perfectly but also match the look of your curtain design.

Curtain tiebacks and curtain lining - for moderating the light that comes into your room. Linings give your curtain weight and blockout for sleeping, while tiebacks are a fun and fanciful way of pulling back and securing your curtains during the day.

Curtain heading tape, curtain hooks and rings - the essentials for those who have a curtain concept in mind and wish to do it themselves.

Curtain rod accessories and curtain rod finials - for making curtain rods look better than the average rod, decorative finials and finishings are a must.

Curtain tracks, curtain gliders and curtain flick sticks - when you don't want your curtains on rods, these are the curtain track accessories you need.
