Cutting

Background Fabric

Cut 3 strips across WOF 6.5" wide and cross cut to yield 16 x 6.5" squares.

Cut 3 strips across WOF 6" wide and cross cut to yield 16 x 6" squares

From the 8 assorted Ocean Oasis fabrics

Cut 2 strips across WOF 6.5" wide and cross cut to yield 8 x 6.5" squares.

Cut 1 strip across WOF 6" wide and cross cut to yield 4 x 6" squares.

Binding fabric

Cut 5 strips across WOF 2.5" wide.

Step 1 - Using your HST ruler, place the ruler diagonally onto the wrong side of each of the background 6.5" squares of fabric and rule a line along each side of the fabric following the edge of the ruler. This is your sewing line so needs to be clear for you to follow when sewing.

Step 2 - Place each of your 6.5" background square fabrics, the right side facing each of the Ocean Oasis 6.5" squares.

Step 3 - Place a couple of pins along the drawn lines in the fabrics to hold the two squares together.

Step 4 - Sew along the 2 drawn diagonal lines.

Take care to sew on the inside of the line (i.e. towards the opposite drawn line.) This will ensure that your square does not reduce in size when you cut it.

Step 5 - After sewing both lines, use a ruler and cut in half (corner to corner).

You have created 2 blocks of HST. Press seams.

Step 6 - Using a square ruler, trim squares to 6".

Step 7 - Press all squares open with seams to one side.

Step 8 - Referring to the Layout Diagram for placement of squares, organise the layout of your squares. There will be sufficient squares of all fabrics to mix and match as desired.

Step 9 - Commencing with the top row, and following the Layout Diagram, sew your 8 squares together. Press seams.

Step 10 - Repeat as per Step 9, following the Layout Diagram and keeping your squares in the right order creating 8 rows consisting of 8 squares each.

Step 11 - Sew your rows together, using the layout diagram as your reference, matching seams. Press seams to one side.

Your quilt top is now complete.

Step 12 - Lay the backing, batting and quilt top and baste together. Quilt as desired.

Step 13 - Join binding strips, fold in half and iron. Sew binding around the quilt.
