INSTRUCTIONS

Teepee

Step 1 - Fold Fabric A in half lengthways, matching selvedges and press. Starting at the bottom edge draw a straight line from fold across the width and mark at 52.5cm. Measure along the fold 150cm as in diagram. Draw a line connecting the points. Cut along the line to create a triangle measuring 105cm across the base and 150cm high. Repeat 3 more times to cut out 4 triangles.

Step 2 - Measure down 15cm from the top of each triangle and cut straight across, cutting off the point. Cut one triangle in half lengthways to create the two front door flaps.

Step 3 - Cut 10 x 5cm wide strips across the width of the fabric for the ties and the front flap and top and bottom edge bindings. Set aside two strips for ties.

Step 4 - To bind top cut edges press one strip in a third lengthways with wrong sides together. Place binding strip right side down onto wrong side of one top straight edge with raw edges aligned and pin in place. Sew strip to flap using 6mm seam allowance. Fold the binding strip over the edge to the front and pin. Topstitch binding in place and trim off excess binding. Repeat for the remaining top edges.

Step 5 - Join remaining 8 strips together end to end on the bias to make one long strip. Press strip in a third lengthways with wrong sides together. Place binding strip on wrong side of one straight edge of door flap aligning raw edges of strip with raw edge of flap and pin in place. Sew strip to flap using 6mm seam allowance. Fold the binding strip over the edge to the front and pin. Topstitch binding in place and trim off excess binding. Repeat for the other front flap.

Step 6 - With wrong sides facing, pin two triangles together along one of the angled sides. Sew together using 1cm seam allowance. Press seam open. Turn fabric over so right sides are facing. Pin together and sew another seam 27mm from the first seam. This will create a pocket for conduit rods. Repeat to sew the three triangles together then sew the front flaps, one on each side.

Step 7 - To bind the bottom edge of all triangles start at left front flap and place strip on wrong side aligning raw edges and pin in place. Sew strip around the bottom edge using 6mm seam allowance. Fold the binding strip over the edge to the front and pin. Topstitch binding in place.

Step 8 - To make the ties fold each of the remaining two strips in half lengthways with right sides facing and press. Sew together lengthways using a 1cm seam allowance. Turn right side out and press with seam along one long edge. Topstitch down each long edge 3mm in from edge. Cut into 6 x 35cm lengths and zigzag across one end of each tie. Pin raw edge of ties to inside of binding on front flaps, the first 30cm up from the base, the second 70cm from the base and the third 20cm from the top. Topstitch in place.

Step 9 - Lay the teepee flat sideways and from the top carefully slide conduit rods into seam pockets. Stand teepee upright ensuring the base of each of the rods is in bottom corners of the teepee. Overlap top exposed rod ends to hold teepee firmly upright. Wrap and weave cord through and around exposed rod ends to hold firmly in place.

Floor Mat

Step 10 - Cut the following: 2 x 110cm squares of Ellie Whittaker Drill, 2 x 110cm squares of polyester wadding, 4 x 6cm strips across the width of fabric for binding.

Step 11 - Layer fabric and wadding as follows: one fabric square right side down, two squares of wadding, one square of fabric right side facing up. Pin all layers together.

Step 12 - Topstitch through all layers using wavy or straight lines. Note - use walking foot to make topstitching easier.

Step 13 - Trim edges to make the floor mat square.

Step 14 - To bind the edge of the mat join the 4 x 6cm strips together end to end on the bias to make one long strip. Press strip in half wrong sides together. Starting in the centre of one side place binding strip on right side and sew strip around the edge using 5mm seam allowance. Fold the binding strip over the edge to the back and pin. With right side facing topstitch binding in place
