Monkey Ripple Cardigan Project

What you'll need:

  • Moda Vera Monkey 100g x 3 (3-4-4) balls 1st Colour (C1-navy), 3 (4-4-5) balls 2nd Colour (C2-orange), 3 (3-4-4) balls 3rd Colour (C3-teal)
  • 1 pair 9mm knitting needles and 9mm circular needle (60cm) or size required to give correct tension.
  • 1 stitch-holder
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Tape measure

Measurements

Size: S (M-L)
To Fit Bust: 85 (95-105-115) cm
Actual Size (approx): 110 (120-130) cm
Length (approx): 80 cm
Sleeve Length: 45 cm

Tension

8.5 sts and 13 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 9mm needles.

Back

Using pair 9mm needles and C1, cast on 47 (51-55) sts.

Beg Rib - 1st row (RS) - K2, P1, K1, rep from to last st, K1.

2nd row - K1, P1, K1, rep from to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 8cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Work 8cm in stocking st, ending with a purl row.

Beg Colour Work Patt - When changing colours in the middle of a row, twist the colour to be used (on WS) underneath and to the right of the colour just used. Use a separate ball of yarn for each section of colour.

Work rows 1 to 78 inclusive from Graph as indicated for Back.

Using C3 for rem, work 6 rows stocking st.

Shape Shoulders - Cast off 7 (8-9) sts at beg of next 4 rows.

Leave rem 19 sts on a stitch-holder.


Left Front

Using pair 9mm needles and C1, cast on 23 (25-27) sts.

Beg Rib - Work 8cm rib as for lower band of Back, ending with a 2nd row.

Work 8cm in stocking st, ending with a purl row.

Beg Colour Work Patt - Work rows 1 to 54 (52-50) incl from Graph as indicated for Left Front.

Shape Front Slope - Keeping Graph correct, dec one st at end (front edge) of next row, then in every foll alt row until 17 (20-23) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 14 (16-18) sts rem.

Cont without shaping until 78th row of Graph has been completed.

Using C3 for rem, work 6 rows stocking st.

Shape Shoulder - Cast off 7 (8-9) sts at beg of next row.

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 7 (8-9) sts.


Right Front

Work as for Left Front to , noting to work from Graph as indicated for Right Front.

Shape Front Slope - Keeping Graph correct, dec one st at beg (front edge) of next row, then in every foll alt row until 17 (20-23) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 14 (16-18) sts rem.

Cont without shaping until 78th row of Graph has been completed.

Using C3 for rem, work 7 rows stocking st.

Shape Shoulder - Cast off 7 (8-9) sts at beg of next row.

Work 1 row. Cast off rem 7 (8-9) sts.


Left Sleeve

Using pair 9mm needles and C2, cast on 19 (21-23) sts.

Beg Rib - Work 8cm in rib as for lower band of Back, ending with a 1st row.

Next row (WS) - P1, inc purlways in next st, P1, rep from to end … 28 (31-34) sts.

Next row - Knit.

Next row - Purl, inc 9 (8-7) sts evenly across last row … 37 (39-41) sts.

Cont in stocking st until work measures 45cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Cast off loosely.


Right Sleeve

Work as for Left Sleeve, using C3 in place of C2.


Right Front & Back Band

Using a flat seam, join shoulder seams. With RS facing, using 9mm circular needle amd C1, knit up 56 (56-55) sts evenly along right front edge to beg of front slope shaping, knit up 23 (23-24) sts evenly along right front slope shaping to shoulder, then knit across 10 sts evenly across sts from back stitch-holder... 89 sts.

Work 4cm in rib as for lower band of Back, beg and ending with a 2nd row.

Cast off loosely in rib.


Left Front & Back Band

Work to correspond with Right Front and Back Band, increasing one st in centre of 9 sts on back neck stitch-holder.


Pockets

Cast on 18sts

Row 1 - K18

Row 2 - P18

Pocket is made up repeating Row 1 and 2 for 25 rows.

Cast off with long tail.

Using yarn needle position pocket in desired position and stitch around the sides and bottom.


Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Using a flat seam, join side edges of bands together at centre back neck. Tie coloured threads 23 (24-25) cm down from shoulder seams, on either side of side edges of Back and armhole edge of Fronts to mark armholes. Using half mattress st, sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeves to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams.
