  • Bernat Blanket Pet 225g: Teal (34019) 1 ball
  • 6mm double pointed needles or size needed to obtain correct tension
  • 6mm circular knitting needles or size needed to obtain correct tension
  • Stitch Marker

MEASUREMENTS

To Fit Dog Chest (cm): 25.5 (S), 35.5 (M), 43 (L), 51 (XL)

Finished Chest (cm): 30.5 (S), 40.6 (M), 48 (L), 56 (XL)

TENSION

11 sts and 16 rows to 10cm over stocking stitch using 6mm needles.

ABBREVIATIONS

Alt = Alternate(ing), Approx = Approximately, Beg = Begin(ning), Cont = Continue(ity), K = Knit, K2tog = Knit next 2 stitches together, M1 = Make 1 stitch by picking up horizontal loop and knitting into back of loop, P = Purl, PM = Place marker, Rem = Remaining, Rep = Repeat, Rnd(s) = Round(s), RS = Right side, Ssk = Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto left-hand needle, then knit through back loops together, St(s) = Stitch(es), WS = Wrong side

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

Note - Move to circular needle when necessary to accommodate all sts.

Beg at neck edge, with set of 4 double-pointed needles, cast on 24 (32-40-48) sts loosely. Divide sts onto 3 needles - 8 (10-14-16) sts on 1st and 2nd needles, 8 (12-12-16) sts on 3rd needle. Join in rnd. PM on first st.

Work 4 (8-10-12) rnds in (K2. P2) ribbing.

SHAPE CHEST

1st round - K 1 ( 2 - 2 - 3). M1. Knit to last 1 (2-2-3) st(s). M1. K1 ( 2 - 2 - 3).

2nd and alt rnds - Knit. Rep last 2 rnds 4 (5-5-6) times more. 34 (44-52-62) sts. Knit 1 (2-4-12) rnd(s) even.

LEG OPENINGS

1st round - K 3 ( 5 - 7 - 8). Cast off 5 (6-8-9) sts loosely. K18 (22-22-28) (including st on needle after cast off).

Cast off 5 (6-8-9) sts loosely. K 3 (5-7-8) (including st on needle after cast off).

2nd round - Knit, casting on 5 (6-8-9) sts loosely over cast off sts. Knit even until work from last rnd of ribbing measures 15 (19-23-35.5) cm.

BACK SHAPING

1st round - Knit to last 3 (5-6-7) sts.

Cast off last 3 (5-6-7) sts and first 3 (5-6-7) sts of next rnd. 28 (34-40-48) sts rem. Working back and forth across needle, proceed as follows - Next row - (WS). K2. Purl to last 2 sts. K2.

Next row - (RS). K2. ssk. Knit to last 4 sts. K2tog. K2. Rep last 2 rows 3 (5-7-8) times more. 20 (22-24-30) sts.

Next 3 rows - Knit. Cast off knitwise (WS).

Edging for Leg Openings - With set of double-pointed needles, pick up and knit 5 (6-8-9) sts across cast off edge. M1. Pick up and knit 5 (6-8-9) sts across cast off edge. M1. Divide these 12 (14-18-20) sts onto 3 needles. Join in rnd. PM on first st.

1st round - K1. P1. Rep from around. Rep last rnd 4 (5-5-6) times more. Cast off loosely.
