What you'll need:

Moda Vera Aries 100g x 4 (5-5-6) balls.

  • 1 pair each of 4.50 mm and 5 mm knitting needles or sizes required to give correct tension.
  • 2 stitch-holders.
  • Scissors, yarn needle, tape measure.

Tension

15 sts x 25 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 5mm needles.

If you have more sts to 10 cm, use a larger size needle, if you have less sts to 10cm, use a smaller size needle.

Instructions

Back

Using 4.50 mm needles, cast on 69 (77-85-93) sts loosely.

Beg Lower Band:

1st row (RS) - K2, P1, K1, rep from to last st, K1.

2nd row - K1, P1, K1, rep from to end.

Last 2 rows form rib.

Cont in rib until work measures 3cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 5mm needles.

Work in stocking st until work measures 36cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Shape Armholes:

Cast off 4 (5-7-8) sts loosely at beg of next 2 rows ... 61 (67-71-77) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll alt row until 53 (57-59-63) sts rem.

Cont without shaping until armholes measures 13.5 (14.5-14.5-14.5) cm, ending with a purl row.

Work a further 22 (22-24-26) rows stocking st.

Shape Shoulders:

Cast off 6 sts loosely at beg of next 4 rows, then 5 (6-6-7) sts loosely at beg of foll 2 rows.

Leave rem 19 (21-23-25) sts on a stitch-holder for Collar.


Front

Work as for Back to .

Shape Neck:

1st row (RS) - K21 (22-23-24), turn.

Cont on these 21 (22-23-24) sts for left side of neck.

Dec one st at neck edge in 2nd row, then in every foll 4th row until 17 (18-18-19) sts rem.

Work 7 (7-5-7) rows.

Shape Shoulder:

Cast of 6 sts loosely at beg of next row, then in foll alt row.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 5 (6-6-7) sts. loosely

Slip next 11 (13-13-15) sts onto a stitch-holder and leave for Collar.

With RS facing, join yarn rem sts and knit to end.

Cont on these 21 (22-23-24) sts for right side of neck.

Rep from to , working 1 more row before shoulder shaping.


Sleeves

Using 4.50 mm needles, cast on 33 (35-35-37) sts loosely.

Work in rib as for Lower Band of Back until work measures 3cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 5mm needles.

Work in stocking st, inc one st at each end of 5th row, then in every foll 12th (10th-8th-6th) row until there are 37 (51-55-53) sts, then in every foll 14th (12th-10th-8th) row until there are 47 (53-57-63) sts.

Cont without shaping until work measures 43cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Shape Top:

Cast off 2 (3-3-4) sts loosely at beg of next 2 rows ... 43 (47-51-55) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 4th (4th-4th-alt) row until 37 (43-47-11) sts rem, then in foll alt (alt-alt-every) row/s until 7 (7-9-9) sts rem.

Work 1 (1-1-0) row/s patt.

Cast off loosely.


Neckband

Using mattress st, join right shoulder seam. With RS facing using 4.50 mm needles, knit up 22 (22-24-26) sts evenly along left side of neck, knit across 11 (13-13-15) sts from front stitch-holder, knit up 22 (22-24-26) sts evenly along right side of neck, then knit across 19 (21-23-25) sts from back stitch-holder ... 74 (78-84-92) sts.

Work 4 rows stocking st beg with a knit row (RS when Collar is turned back).

5th row - Inc in next st, K1, rep from to end ... 111 (117-126-138) sts.

Cont in stocking st beg with a purl row, until Collar measures 6cm, ending with a purl row.

Change to 5mm needles.

Next row - Inc in next st, K2, rep from to end ... 148 (156-168-184) sts.

Cont in stocking st beg with a purl row, until Collar measures 15cm, ending with a purl row and inc one st in centre ... 149 (157-169-185) sts.

Work 6 rows rib as for Lower Band of Back.

Cast off very loosely in rib.


Finishing

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join left shoulder and Collar seam, reversing seam on Collar. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Turn Collar to RS.
