FACE MASK WITH DARTS

Face Mask with Darts Project

Level: Easy

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • 40 cm of fabric
  • Template (add a 1cm seam allowance to the template)
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Sewing Machine and matching thread
  • Elastic or ties
  • Iron on motifs optional

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 - Trace template onto fabric ensuring it is cut on the fold. Repeat these 3 times so you have 3 layers of fabric.

Step 2 - Sew the darts of each pattern piece with a 1cm seam allowance.

Step 3 - Put your outer layers together with right sides facing in and place the middle layer on top, this will ensure it is inside the 2 outer layers when turned right side out. Pin the 3 layers together and sew around the entire outside with a 1cm seam allowance but leave a gap for turning through.

Step 4 - Cut away the seam allowance on all corners, this will help create a neat corner. Turn the mask right side out through the gap left in step 3. Use a pin to pull the corners out so they sit neat.

Step 5 - Top stitch with a 3mm seam allowance around the outside of mask, this will close the opening shut.

Step 6 - Fold the ends of the mask back 2cm and sew in place, this will create the casing for your elastic or tie. You can fold the ends back further if you have a thicker elastic or tie.

Step 7 - Thread your elastic or tie through the casing on each end of the mask.

Step 8 - To finish add iron on motifs or embellishments to create a one of a kind mask!
