Flinders Cotton 8 Ply Cushion Project Project

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • 50g '4 Seasons' Flinders Cotton 8 ply
    • 1st Colour (C1-off white) 3 balls
    • 2nd Colour (C2-pink) 1 ball
    • 3rd Colour (C3-green) 2 balls
    • 4th Colour (C4-purple) 1 ball
  • 1 pair 4mm knitting needles or size required to give correct tension
  • 46 cm x 46cm cushion insert
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Tape measure

MEASUREMENTS

Finished size (approx.): 46cm x 46cm

INSTRUCTIONS

TENSION

21 sts and 29 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4mm needles.

CUSHION

Front - Using 4mm needles and C1, cast on 93 sts.

Note - When working in stripes, carry colour not in use loosely upside edge of work until required again.

Using C1, work 2 rows stocking st (1st row is RS).

Using C2, knit 4 rows garter st = 2 ridges.

Rep last 6 rows until work measures approx. 19cm from beg, ending with 2 rows of C1.

Break off C1 and C2.

Using C3, work in stocking st until work measures 25cm from beg, ending with a purl row. Break off

C3.

Note - When changing colours in the middle of a row, twist the colour to be used (on WS)

underneath and to the right of the colour just used. Use a separate ball of yarn for each section of colour. Wind balls into smaller balls or use yarn bobs.

Next row (RS) - K14 C4, K13 C1, K13 C4, rep from to last st, K1 C4.

Next row - P14 C4, P13 C1, P13 C4, rep from to last st, P1 C4.

Rep last 2 rows until work measures 44cm from beg, ending with a purl row.

Break off C4, thus completing Front.

Beg Back - Using C1 for rem, cont in stocking st until Back measures 44cm from beg of C1, ending with a purl row. Cast off loosely.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Fold cushion in half so that cast on and cast-off edges meet. Using mattress st, join side edges. Place insert inside and close opening.
