Wonderland Stockings Project

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • 70cm of furnishing fabric (outer)
  • 70cm of lining or plain cotton fabric (lining)
  • 40cm by 45cm wide of printed cotton Christmas fabric (cuff)
  • Scissors, Pins, Tape measure/ruler
  • Iron
  • Sewing machine & matching threads

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 - Using template provided, cut 2x stocking shapes from furnishing fabric and 2x stockings from lining fabric.

Step 2 - With right sides facing pin stocking front and back together aligning toe and heels edges. With a 1cm seam allowance sew around the sides of the stocking leaving the top opening open. Clip and finish seams. Turn stocking right way out.
Repeat steps to make the stocking lining leaving a 10cm opening at the base of stocking for turning out.

Step 3 - To make the cuff for stocking, with right sides facing, sew the side edges together to make a loop of fabric. Press seam open. With right sides on the outside, fold up the base raw edge to align with the top raw edges, baste top edges together, press cuff flat.
Place cuff over the top opening of the outer stocking aligning top raw edges and side seams, baste edges together.

To make the hanger, cut a strip measuring 30cm long by 4cm wide from furnishing fabric. Press in 1cm along both long raw edges and then press strap in half aligning the two pressed edges. Pin together then top stitch along both long edges to secure.
Make a loop from the strip and pin the raw edges of the loop at the top of the outer stocking at the outer side seam. Baste in place.

Step 4 - Place the outer stocking inside the lining stocking, right sides facing, aligning all top raw edges. Sew together with a 1.5cm seam allowance. Turn out the stocking to the right side through the opening in base of lining. Press the seam allowance of the opening to the inside and top stitch opening closed. Place lining inside the outer stocking and press stocking flat.
