Instructions

Per stocking:

Step 1- Using template provided, trace and cut out two stocking templates.

Cut out one stocking template as a whole stocking- this will be used for the backing, lining and fleece.

On the other template trace each patchwork section. Write on each section, number 1 through to 8. This will help you later know the order of each piece. Cut out each section.

Step 2- Using the whole stocking template, pin onto backing fabric. Ensuring that the template is facing the opposite way to the front templates, cut out backing piece adding on seam allowance.

With same template & adding seam allowance, cut out 2x pieces from lining fabric and 2x pieces of fleece.

Pin each of the 8 sections from the front of the stocking to each of the different fabrics. Adding seam allowance, cut out.

Step 3- Sew section 1 & 2 together. Press seam open. Continue to sew each section together ensuring the sections are sewn together in order. Press all seams open.

Step 4- Fuse one of the fleece pieces to the back of the patchwork front. Fuse the reminding fleece piece to the back of the backing stocking piece.

Boot Stocking- With right sides facing, pin the front patchwork stocking piece to the back stocking piece. Sew together leaving the top edges open. Trim fleece back to stitching. Trim seam and clip curved seam allowance. Turn right way out and press.

Bone Stocking- With right sides facing, pin the front patchwork stocking piece to the back stocking piece. Sew together leaving the top edges open from the start of the first section. Trim fleece back to stitching. Trim seam and clip curved seam allowance. Turn right way out and press.

Step 5- Boot Stocking- With right sides facing, pin the lining pieces together. Sew together leaving a 10cm section open along the long side seam and the top edges open. Trim seam and clip curved seam allowance.

Bone Stocking- With right sides facing, pin the lining pieces together. Sew together leaving a 10cm section open along the middle section and the top edges open to the same height as left open on the front patchwork piece. Trim seam and clip curved seam allowance.

Step 6- To make hanger, cut a strip of fabric measuring 4cm wide by 20cm long. With right sides facing, fold strip in half aligning long edges. With a 1cm seam allowance, sew long edges together. Trim back seam to 5mm and turn fabric right way out, press flat. Loop fabric hanger into a loop and align raw ends and sew together.

Boot Stocking- Pin the hanger loop to the back of the stocking at the top of the long straight side of stocking, aligning the raw ends of the loop with the top raw edge of the stocking 1cm in from side seam. Sew in place.

Bone Stocking- Pin the hanger loop to the back of the stocking at one of the side top edges, aligning the raw ends of the loop with the top raw edge of the stocking . Sew in place.

Step 7- With right sides facing, place outer stocking inside the lining stocking. Pin top raw edges together aligning side seams and ensuring the hanger is facing down away from top edge. Sew top edges together. Trim fleece back to seam.

Step 8- Turn stocking right way out through the side opening in the lining fabric. Sew opening closed. Push the lining snuggly into the stocking. Press all seams flat. Top stitch along the top edges.

Tip: Use pre-quilted fabrics instead of outer or lining fabrics.
