INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 - Sides - Take the two Fabric A rectangles, decide which will be the outer bag the other the lining. With lining right side down place Insul Poly on top with silver side down on wrong side of lining. Place outer rectangle on top of Insul Poly with right side facing up. With the Insul Poly sandwiched between the fabrics pin together around the edges.

Note - It is important that the silver side of the Insul Poly is towards the lining.

Step 2 - With the outer bag side facing quilt the layers together. We used simple diagonal lines.

Tip - As outer and lining are same fabric using a slightly different colour thread in the bobbin helps identify the lining side. Press and trim 10 1/4" wide x 11 1/2".

Step 3 - Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other side of the bag.

Step 4 - Gusset - As for the sides sandwich the Insul Poly between the fabrics and quilt. We quilted long straight lines down the strip. Press and trim gusset 6 3/4" wide x 31 3/4".

Step 5 - Binding - Press binding strips in half lengthwise. Cut 2 x 6 3/4" long strips. Pin one strip across one end of the gusset on the lining side with raw edges aligned. Sew in place. Turn binding to the right side and hold in place with binding clips. Machine stitch in place. Repeat to attach binding to the other end of the gusset.

Step 6 - Bag - With wrong sides together pin the gusset to one bag side starting 3/4" down from the top of the bag. Continue around finishing 3/4" from the top. Sew bag to gusset stopping 1/4" from the bottom edge of the bag, with needle down pivot and continue across the bottom again stopping 1/4" from the bottom edge of the bag, with needle down pivot and continue up the side.

Note - The seam is on the outside of the bag.

Repeat step 6 to attach the other side of the bag to the other side of the gusset.

Step 7 - Take one binding strip and starting at the top of the bag on the gusset side and with raw edges aligned pin binding around edge back to top of the bag. Sew in place. Turn binding to the right side and hold in place with binding clips. Machine stitch in place. Repeat to attach binding to the other side of bag.

Step 8 - To attach binding to top edge of bag sew to inside edge with raw edges aligned then turn to the right and machine stitch.

Step 9 - Straps - Take the remaining Fabric D 2 1/2" strip and cut in half. Fuse interfacing to wrong side of each strip. Fold each strip in half lengthways with right sides facing and press. Sew together lengthways. Turn right side out and press with seam along one long edge. Ensure straps are the same length then fold ends in and press. Topstitch across ends and down each long side 1/8" from edge.

Step 10 - To attach straps mark centre top of bag. Pin ends of straps 2" down from top edge and 2" from the centre so straps are 4" apart and 2" down from top edge. Topstitch in place in a 1" square across bottom, up sides, across top and on the diagonals.

Step 11 - Zipper - Cut 2 x 1 1/2" squares of dark brown felt. Fold one square of felt in half and insert one end of the zipper into the fold. Attach zipper foot. Sew across the raw edge and down each side. Trim back felt if necessary.

Step 12 - Centre the zipper across the top of the bag and pin to inside of binding on one side. Sew in place. Pin to inside of binding on the other top edge of the bag. Open zipper and sew in place. Add a second row of stitching towards the outer edge of the zipper on both sides.
