DRAWSTRING FLOWER BAG

Instructions:

Step 1- To get started read through simplicity pattern 9572 and familiarize yourself with all the pieces and equipment you will need.

Step 2- Cut out the pattern pieces needed for 'large bag C' this will include pieces 17,18 & 19.

Step 3- Pin pattern pieces 17 & 19 onto folded calico fabric and cut out the front and back pieces.

Step 4- Use pattern piece 18 as a guide for the size of trim you will need for this part (keep in mind, it doesn't matter what size trim you use, it will just change the overall length of the bag at the end)

Step 5- Once you have chosen your trim, we are using Simplicity Burlap Lace trim, attach the trim to the middle of the top and bottom pieces using a ¼ inch seam allowance and sew, do the same for the back pieces.

Step 6- Now that you have the two sides complete pin them together right side together and sew along both sides until you reach the drawstring marker on the pattern.

Step 7- Follow the pattern instructions on page 3 of the insert to sew the drawstring channel.

Step 8- Cut the cord in half, thread through one side and then back down the other side until both ends are back on the same side. Then starting from the other side of the bag thread through the second piece of cord, until you have two cords threaded through, so you can pull each side tight to cinch the bag. Trim cord to length and knot the ends to prevent fraying.

Step 9- Now here's where the pattern hacking starts... Instead of sewing shut the bottom of the bag you are going to pin & hem the bottom, and this will become the top end of the bag.

Step 10- Cut 2 90cm X 9cm handles out of calico, sew the edges together using a ¼ inch seam allowance then turn inside out and press to make a strap for the bag.

Step 11- Attach your handles to the inside of each side of your bag and sew, instructions can be found on page 3 of the insert of your pattern.

Step 12- Now keep your flowers where they belong (peeking out of the top of the tote) and your hands free by cinching the drawstring securely around the stems.
