TENSION

28 sts x 30 rows to 10cm over 3 x 3 rib relaxed, using 4mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

BACK

Using 4mm needles, cast on 135 (147-165- 177) sts.

BEG 3 X 3 RIB

1st row (RS) - K3, * P3, K3, rep from * to end.

2nd row - P3, * K3, P3, rep from * to end.

Last 2 rows form 3 x 3 rib.

Cont in rib until work measures 35cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping.

Next row (RS) - K1 (3-1-1), K2tog, * K2, K2tog, rep from * to last 0 (2-2-2) sts, K0 (2- 2-2) ... 101 (111-124-133) sts.

Next row (WS) - Knit, dec 0 (0-1-0) st/s in centre ... 101 (111-123-133) sts. **

Cont in garter st for rem, until armholes measure 22 (23-24-25) cm from coloured threads, working last row on WS.

SHAPE SHOULDERS

Cast off 11 (12-14-15) sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 10 (12-13-15) sts at beg of foll 2 rows.

Leave rem 37 (39-41-43) sts on a stitch-holder for collar.

FRONT

Work as for Back to **.

Cont in garter st, until there are 26 rows less than Back to beg of shoulder shaping, working last row on WS, (1 ridge = 2 rows).

SHAPE NECK

1st row (RS) - K39 (43-48-52), turn.

Cont on these 39 (43-48-52) sts.

*** Dec one st at neck edge in every foll alt row until 34 (38-43-47) sts rem, then in every foll 4th row until 32 (36-41-45) sts rem.

Knit 7 rows garter st.

SHAPE SHOULDER

Cast off 11 (12-14-15) sts at beg of next row, then in foll alt row.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 10 (12-13-15) sts. ***

Slip next 23 (25-27-29) sts onto stitch-holder and leave for collar.

With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts and knit to end.

Cont on these 39 (43-48-52) sts.

Rep from *** to ***, working 1 more row before shoulder shaping.

SLEEVES

Using 4mm needles, cast on 117 (123-129- 135) sts.

BEG 3 X 3 RIB

Work in 3 x 3 rib as for Back until sleeve measures 42cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Next row - (RS) - K0 (1-2-3), (K2tog) 1 (2- 3-4) time/s, * K3, K2tog, rep from * to last 0 (3-6-9) sts, (K2tog) 0 (1-2-3) times, K0 (1- 2-3) ... 93 (97-101-105) sts.

Next row - Purl.

Cast off.

COLLAR

Using mattress st, join right shoulder seam. With RS facing and using 4mm needles, knit up 18 sts evenly along left side of neck, knit across 23 (25-27-29) sts from front stitch-holder, knit up 18 sts evenly along right side of neck, then knit across 37 (39-41-43) sts from back stitch-holder - dec 4 (2-0-4) sts evenly across ... 92 (98-104-104) sts.

1st row (WS) - P2, * K3, P3, rep from * to end.

2nd row - * K3, P3, rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.

Last 2 rows form rib.

Cont in rib until collar measures 8cm, ending with a 1st row.

Cast off loosely in rib.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join left shoulder and collar seam. Sew cast off edge of sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeves to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams. Lay garment on a towel on a flat surface and spray with warm water. Block rib rows to measurements as stated above and leave to dry.
