TENSION

27 sts and 55 rows to 10cm over garter st, using 3.25mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

BACK

Using 3.25mm needles and C, cast on 64 (72-76-80) sts. Knit 5 rows garter st (1st row is WS). Break off C. Using M for rem, cont in garter st until work measures 13 (15-16-17) cm from beg, working last row on WS. Knit a further 2 rows garter st.

Shape Armholes - Cast off 4 (5-5-6) sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 56 (62-66-68) sts.

Next row - K4, K2tog, knit to last 6 sts, K2tog, K4.

Cont dec one st (as before inside 4 sts) at each end of every foll alt row until 48 (54-56-58) sts rem. Knit 47 (51-55-61) rows garter st.

Shape Shoulders - Cast off 5 (7-7-7) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 5 (6-6-7) sts at beg of foll 2 rows. Leave rem 28 (28-30-30) sts on a stitch-holder.

LEFT FRONT

Using 3.25mm needles and C, cast on 40 (44-48-52) sts. Knit 5 rows garter st (1st row is WS). Break off C. Using M for rem, cont in garter st until work measures 13 (15-16-17) cm from beg, working last row on WS. **

Next row - Knit to last 15 sts, yfwd, K2tog, K9, yfwd, K2tog, K2 ... 2 buttonholes.

Knit 1 row.

Shape Armhole - Cast off 4 (5-5-6) sts at beg of next row ... 36 (39-43-46) sts. Knit 1 row.

Next row - K4, K2tog, knit to end.

Cont dec one st (as before inside 4 sts) at armhole edge in every foll alt row until 32 (35-38-41) sts rem. Knit 13 (17-15-21) rows garter st.

Next row - Knit to last 15 sts, yfwd, K2tog, K9, yfwd, K2tog, K2 ... 4 buttonholes in all. Knit 5 rows garter st.

Shape Neck - Next row (RS) - Knit to last 6 sts, K3tog, K3.

Cont dec 2 sts (as before) in every foll alt row until 16 (19-22 21) sts rem. Knit 1 row.

Next row - Knit to last 5 sts, K2tog, K3.

Cont dec one st (as before) in every foll alt row until 10 (13-13-14) sts rem. Knit 1 row.

Shape Shoulder - Cast off 5 (7-7-7) sts at beg of next row. Knit 1 row. Cast off rem 5 (6-6-7) sts.

RIGHT FRONT

Work as for Left Front to **. Knit 3 rows garter st.

Shape Armhole - Cast off 4 (5-5-6) sts at beg of next row... 36 (39-43-46) sts.

Next row - Knit to last 6 sts, K2tog, K4.

Cont dec one st (as before inside 4 sts) at armhole edge in every foll alt row until 32 (35-38-41) sts rem. Knit 19 (23-21-27) rows garter st.

Shape Neck - Next row (RS) - K3, K3tog, knit to end.

Cont dec 2 sts (as before) in every foll alt row until 16 (19-22-21) sts rem. Knit 1 row.

Next row - K3, K2tog, knit to end.

Cont dec one st (as before) in every foll alt row until 10 (13-13-14) sts rem. Knit 2 rows garter st.

Shape Shoulder - Cast off 5 (7-7-7) sts at beg of next row. Work 1 row. Cast off rem 5 (6-6-7) sts.

SLEEVES

Using 3.25mm needles and C, cast on 38 (40-40-42) sts. Knit 5 rows garter st (1st row is WS). Break off C. Using M for rem, knit 2 rows garter st. Cont in garter st, inc one st at each end of next row, then in every foll 10th row until there are 50 (54-56-58) sts. Cont without shaping until work measures 13 (16-18-19) cm from beg, working last row on WS.

Shape Top - Cast off 2 (3-3-3) sts at beg of next 2 rows ... 46 (48-50-52) sts.

Next row - K4, K2tog, knit to last 6 sts, K2tog, K4.

Cont dec one st (as before inside 4 sts) at each end of every foll 4th row until 42 (44-44-42) sts rem, then in every foll alt row until 10 (10-10-12) sts rem. Knit 1 row. Cast off loosely.

RIGHT FRONT AND BACK EDGING

Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. With RS facing, using 3.25mm needles and C, knit up 49 (57-59-65) sts evenly along right front edge to beg of neck shaping, knit up 28 (28-34-34) sts evenly along right front neck shaping to shoulder, then knit across sts from back stitch-holder ... 105 (113-123-129) sts.

Next row (WS) - Purl.

Next row - Knit. Rep last 2 rows once more. Cast off loosely purlways

LEFT FRONT EDGING

With RS facing, using 3.25mm needles and C, beg at left shoulder seam, knit up 28 (28-34-34) sts evenly along left front neck shaping, then knit up 49 (57-59-65) sts evenly along left front edge ... 77 (85-93-99) sts. Work as for Right Front and Back Edging.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using mattress st, join side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Using a flat seam, join side edge of edging tog and allow edgings to roll to RS. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
